Retailer extended warranties almost always are a bad thing. I've read a lot of stories about Best Buy arbitrarily deciding who's "service plan" they will honor and who's they want. It's in the fine print. Just because you paid them money doesn't mean they have to do anything for you. Sad but true.
I'm not trying to sell anyone on the idea of extended warranties; I'm just giving you the perspective of a Mac user who was nearly screwed over.
