As many of us will be making the trek to Lynchburg over the weekend and into next week, and with gas prices as crazy as they are, I was wondering if those of you in Lynchburg could let us out of towners know how much gas is there. What's the cheapest?

This will help some of us to decide if we should fill up before we come up, or afterwards.

Cheapest I've seen is $2.95 for regular. Its probably a bit cheaper in Roanoke since they are closer to the refineries.

As I recall back in September (I think) when gas was plummiting, Richmond was cheaper than Lynchburg.

Yeah it seems to be about the same. The cheapest I've seen around here today was for $2.95.

Last time I was in Chesapeake, gas was cheaper than in Lynchburg. Might want to check gasbuddy.com or virginiagasprices.com though.

The gas at Sheets on 221 near my house was $3.07 last night. I filled up my Tundra and 3 one-gallon jugs for cutting grass, and my total was $67. Then I got a liter of Tradewinds sweet tea, 2 bags of chips, and an frozen latte (for my wife) for $11, so my total Sheets bill was $78 (I've had tune-ups that costed less).

it cost me $70.00 to fill my wife's truck w/ diesel the other day in Jersey.

Schfourteenteen would appreciate the fact that it was cheapest near his place- $2.85 for Reg unleaded, and $2.71 for diesel.

Jim-That's enough to make you want to say "Sheet"...everytime I fill up I think of Clinton, and 11 years ago vetoing legislation on drilling in Alaska. Might not have made a difference, who's to know? I'm just tired of feeling like I went to the proctologist everytime I fill up. Us old hags know about the latex glove.

Nice to see prices going down; several stations have dropped back to $2.99 per gallon. I think it's evidence of opportunism on the part of the local stations, with the graduation and funeral traffic causing a spike in prices.

I've read several stories in the past couple of weeks saying things are going to get pretty bad this summer. We're consuming past our capacity to refine, and the oil companies don't want to invest any money in new refineries because the current executive policy is for our nation to work toward moving to biofuels.

I've also read stories about independent fueling station owners shutting down because they're not making enough on the gas to pay the bills. They're being charged $3.45 a gallon and the station owned by the oil company across the street is only charging $3.47. They don't have any choice but to sell for the same price. $0.02 a gallon just isn't enough to stay in business, especially when everyone uses a credit card to pay at the pump and they're having to pay the credit card company fees.

It won't be long before independent fuel stations owners go the way of the dodo and the oil companies own everything from the refinery to the pump. They're already raking in record profits. No one is going to do anything about it, though.
