Here's an article from the (Rock Hill) Herald about the accident and De'Andre's condition:

http://www.heraldonline.com/102/story/25108.html

Brain swelling seemed to be the worst part of the accident, so he was put into a drug-induced coma in order to help that heal. If I'm reading it right, it sounds like the swelling has gone down quite a bit from yesterday, so that is good news. PAMedic (or anyone else that would know), it mentions that he bruised his liver too...how serious is that? Other than that, he surprisingly didn't have any bone fractures (considering he flipped his car and hit a tree, that's amazing)...I'll try to post any updates I get onto this site if I find them.

good news WEF, thanks for the update. Head injuries are most often the more serious injury but it sounds like they did a good job and got right on that. Hard to tell what kind of damage there may be until the swelling goes away and they can get a good CT.

the liver- a bruise is probably the best possible outcome- he really couldve done some damage, esp the hollow organs tend to rupture. Not good. Sounds like he dodged a bullet there though sometimes it takes a while to make sure they haven't missed a small lac somewhere.

Overall it sounds like he is doing as well as can be expected, thats good to hear.

SIDENOTE: Hope everyone remembers to wear their seatbelts.

Luckily (according to the article on WU's website), De'Andre was wearing one...I very seriously doubt he'd still be alive if he wasn't.

Wearing a seat belt absolutely saved my life last summer. June 2, 2006 could have been my last day on earth but because I had a belt on I was safe in the cock pit of the car instead of being thrown out of a rolling SUV and crushed. Fortunately for me, I didn't have trees lining the median that I was rolling in, if I were a few hundred yards down the road, I would have hit a bunch of trees and there would have been problems like DeAndre' is having. I am so grateful and thankful for life every day. Still praying for the little fella.

Unreal. I'm kind of in shock right now, which I guess is how you guys are feeling as well from Jerry. It's been awhile since I've shed some tears, but they are free flowing today.

SJ,

If you get a chance, can you make me an avatar with Dre in it?

Realist,

I was going to do it for you, but I think the person has to be on your account/log-in to do it. SJ will probably be by in a few minutes and let you know more particulars/possibilities.

Godspeed to DeAndre, his family and friends.

If anything, the past few weeks have taught us that this thing goes beyond sports. Condolences to the Winthrop family.

Get me a picture and I'll see what I can do. Would you rather have an avatar or a signature? Signatures are easier and look better.

SJ,

There is a pic on WEF's signature on the WU board that is good. There is one on winthropeagles.com if you look for the accident announcement in the stories. I appreciate it.

I think we can take solace in that Dre was the kid's favorite. He touched a lot of lives that way. I think they looked up to him because he was the little guy that could.

Thanks for the support.

Someone posted something about it coming in three (reference to religious figures), let's also hope it doesn't come in threes for the Big South.
