I'm just curious to know, since a lot of us have been talking to each other for some time now, what your occupations are. I understand some wish to keep a degree of anonymity, so please understand I'm not asking who you work for so much as I am what you do there. How do you earn your bread? Oh, and students, unless you've got a full-time time job, I'm not interested. ;) No offense. You can feel free tell us what you want to do someday, though.

Someone else kick us off. I'll come back and talk about myself when dinner hasn't just been put in front of me.

Director of Program Management, get to work from home, or wherever there is internet access, when I am not traveling, which is nice. Travel about 50% of the time.

My primary job is as Sports Producer for the NBC station here in Houston. But for the past three years I have been working as a strategic communications specialist where I train how corporate execs how to handle the media and crisis communications. Recently I added teaching at the Houston branch of the Connecticut School of Broadcasting to my schedule.

started out as a vol. firefighter- realized that no money = no food and little clothing.

switched over to EMS, never looked back

still play fireman but rarely catch a job any more.

majority of my time is spent in management (3 Advanced Life Support units, 1 response car, 2 stations, 40 employees.)

still broke, thanks in large part to 2 kids, golf and trips to VA to tailgate.

I'm a Supervisor in a Network Operations Center. Because of the way our NOC is currently structured, this also means I'm a Systems Administrator. I'm responsible for monitoring, reporting on, troubleshooting and repair of all production systems. I work 12 hour overnight shifts, currently. I should be able to work from home about 95% of the time, but um, my employer doesn't care for people working from home, so I don't get to do that.

I've been in systems administration since July of '02. I love what I do.

Edit: Even though I don't think there's anyone here who doesn't know who I work for, it would seem that it would be wise for me to remove that information. Thanks.

I am the other "resident LU professor" on board here though I also do some coaching, driving, directing, & fieldtrip hosting. My major areas are American Literature and Gifted Education (however, for a number of summers in my late 30s and early 40s I also worked construction with a friend of mine from church, building decks and doing remodeling jobs).

Medic/Scorcho/others, who are happy with their jobs, regarless of monetary gain, be thanKful that you are doing something you love. If I had to do it all over again that would be my #1 priority, not how much money there is to be made. Congratulations.

Actually just resigned from my job doing marketing/development/PR for a health organization and took a marketing manager job with Hanesbrands, Inc. Go buy lots of underwear gentlemen. And if you're currently wearing Hanes, my fiance probably designed it :)
