if you want to know what goes on backstage at snl, read Gasping for Air by Jay Mohr....its hilarious and also gives you a glimpse of what its liek to be on the show...

all of the 90's are my favorite....

one of the things they touched on about the popularity of the late 90's were the repeat characters....you don't have good ones today....besides the a-hole couple none of them are any good....

the past 4-5 years of saturday night live have been unwatchable....yet i still do...even though its not new every week....also the musical guests are terrible...probably because the show is terrible...they don't get the big names like they used to....

andy sandberg and his shorts are about the only thing going for them....andy sudakis is ok. kristin wig is actually kind of funny too...the rest....get rid of them...

Fred - ok...not that great
will - terrible how is this retard still on the show...his bush was horrible as well..
Bill - i like him but i don't think anyone has written right for him yet..
Darrell - sorry man you are great but you are a man amongst boys and its awkward
Seth - unfunny....he never makes me lauge...REally, really seth, you don't make me laugh, really
Amy - cute funny but not that great
Maya - you are still on the show because you can be any color/ethnicity at the drop of a hat
Andy - funny....the rest bring him down
Jason - a-holes are funny, but he doesn't have a niche character.
Kenan - we can't find a funnier token black guy?...hes horrible
Kristin - ok i think she's kind of funny

they've been having bad hosts and bad music guests...whoever is still writing for the show is nowhere on par with jim downy, smigel, wolf, herlihy, or conan....

We must have different musical tastes, because I've enjoyed several of the musical guests this season. I'm also not sure what makes a "big name" for you, but they haven't ventured outside of the Billboard charts hardly at all this season. From this season I liked: The Killers, My Chemical Romance, Beck, Ludacris, Justin Timberlake (best host this season), Arcade Fire and Snow Patrol. I'll concede that MCR, JT and Ludacris are of debatable quality, but I thought they all did well.

all terrible....and besides jt and maybe mcr (wtf is wrong with people) none of these bands are "big name bands"...snow patrol?...i mean comeon...you and me might like them but you have ot admit this is not a house hold name.....this show used to get top shelf....now its settling for hovering near expiration date shelf...

Corinne Bailey Rae, The Shins, Lily Allen, Biork? comeon now....

and if this is whats on the billboard charts these days i'm glad i have formed a barrier that separates me from todays music....

and the only reason they got jt is because he thinks he's funny....

when were the shins on? I'd like to see how they are live. The Killers are ok, but I thought they sounded terrible last year on SNL. It lead me to believe that they are completely doctored up on CD.

take a hammer and go outside, the first male person you see hit him in the nuts with said hammer....not a sissy hit but like you are trying to hit a baseball.....the result is similar to seeing the shins live

Justin Timberlake and Peyton Manning were the best hosts this year. Timberlake was best by far.

Don't be too hard on musical acts that sound bad on SNL. That show has a long long history of sound problems. I don't know why b/c it's not like they don't have the resources to fix it, but it's really bad. What ends up happening is that many of the performers actually lip sync their sets to avoid the problem. Everybody gave Ashlee Simpson grief when she got caught running a track instead of singing but the fact is that everybody lip syncs on Saturday Night Live! Eminem was visibly lip synching just two weeks later. On the other hand, you get bands like the Killers or Metallica that have this massive musician ego and say "we're not gonna do that" and then they end up sounding like crap in front of millions of people.

A couple of my favorite episodes over the last few years:

Lindsay Lohan doing the Harry Potter skit...uhmmm yea....

Janet Jackson doing the cork soaking bit...maybe one of the funniest bits I have seen in many, many years. I have tried to find video of it, but have been unsucessful.

ahh yes, I remember one year like half my dorm gathered around to watch POD and it was so bad we were just speachless. Someone remarked that it sounded like he was singing "for the very first time". And we all laughed at the delicious pun.

Yes, in this case, I am. It's a free TV show, not a concert and it's the performer's voice on the tape. I don't have a problem with that. If people were paying to see them perform in concert, that's completely different.

Personally, I very much enjoyed Alec Baldwin's Schwetty Balls.

There's a new sig for ya, Scorchy.

I think you missed what I was saying there, RM. It's not that they have a "bad" sound. Live performances on SNL actually sound bad. I think it has something to do with the tight space and the monitor feeds b/c they end up all over the map rhythmically and way off-key.

We just disagree, as I suspected. Music is a matter of taste, so don't be so matter of fact about it. Also, Snow Patrol came into the mainstream last year. You obviously weren't around for that. Yes, I've liked them for a long time, but they made the crossover into the pop charts with the song Chasing Cars. As for the big name bands, the show could still have the pull of classic acts, but why do it other than once or twice a season? It just makes them look out of touch.
RubberMallet wrote:Corinne Bailey Rae, The Shins, Lily Allen, Biork? comeon now...
With the exception of Bjork, those are all Billboard Hot 100 and Top 200 acts. You're just out of touch. I'm not saying I like any of those four, and I'm not naive enough to pretend that raw popularity is why they're on the charts. They're there all the same.

What would you have preferred? Another Aerosmith appearance?

omg don't get me started on my hatred for non "dream on" aerosmith

as for taste....yeah you are right there are lots of people with bad taste...which i do allow to a certain extent.

saturdya night live used to pul top 25 acts....if those groups/people are anywhere near the top 25 then we should just stop music as a society

knrn used to play snow patrol back in 01 and i bought when its all over....good stuff....its nice to see they broke out....

Uh, no. Not even close to true. Nickelback is among my most hated. Definitely Top 5 worst.
