I don't know what kind of cake Dr. Towns likes - but he likes town house cookies...

When I was a freshman, Lynchburg had a Krispy Kreme - he spoke of it nonstop.

If you can get a job for my wife in admissions, I will give you a freezer.

Dude, everything is better in pie form. When I was growing up, one of my all-time favorite meals was ground beef mixed with Spanish rice and baked in a pie shell.

I dont like the way my DVR fast forwards...tivo will let you see in advance what you'll get to if you were to stop it...but when you FF on DVR it's to late by the time you see what you wanted

HD looks sweet though

Actually, tivo has a patent on the feature that allows for the delay in human response, so when you press play after fast forwarding, it realizes that you want to watch what you saw a split second ago. That’s one of the reasons tivo is just better. Except for the part that they sell the service instead of just the hardware. If Tivo were to just sell equipment and give away the service, they would make money instead of lose it.

And apparently if they gave away free pie, they would be bigger than Microsoft.

thats the feature I was trying to say...i didnt know it was patented...it makes sense b/c I'm sure DVR would have wanted to put it in theirs

HMO...what are the other differences you notice between the two?
Likes/dislikes?

I'll admit...the fast forwarding option on Tivo is really cool, and would be extremely hard to get used to not having.

I'm glad I have no idea what you guys are describing. I would probably want that. The only thing I don't like about my DVR is that you cant automatically skip the commercials. They have a skip ahead button but it never never lines up with the end of the commericals. I had heard that the industry did that on purpose though.

Keep in mind this is only after a few days use, so I'll keep adding to it....

DVR Likes:

1. HD it's great...it's kinda like the first time you put on eye glasses, you never knew some colors were there until you see HD
2. Hard Drive size 200 hours or recording sure beats the 80 hours of Tivo

DVR Dislikes:

1. $$$$$ 200 bucks is still 200 bucks
2. I dont think it's as easy to use as Tivo

Check out this link and read what other user opinions were....it's interesting

The 200 hours...is that 200 HD hours? I thought I read somewhere (don't know if it was Tivo or DTV) but one of their units was capable or recording a bunch of hours of SD...but much less of HD...I was curious what the DTV dvr was capable of.

Thats the case for any DVR...keep in mind only 5% of your programing that you might want to record are going to be HD....it's no different then (for you medic) your VCR LP, SP etc. 200 hours of reg recording but only 50 hours of HD...again, i have 20 season passes and none are in HD...yet

Another perk to building your own DVR: Need more space? No problem! Just add a bigger hard drive, or even better, an additional one. 8)
