Considering we have no coach as of yet- this is probably as good as we could have expected at this point.

we still need a head coach. I'm guessing one is NOT going to be named in the next day and a half.

Assuming Ms. Aguilar has the job by default, at least for the time being?

Flames Drop Season Opener
January 28, 2006 · Lynchburg, Va.

The Liberty Flames found the going tough in the season opener as they fell, 7-0, to the Appalachian State Mountaineers, indoors at the Sports Racket, Saturday night.

Despite prevailing in a hard fought #1 doubles match, the Flames were unable to get the point for doubles as the Mountaineers rebounded to take both the #2 and #3 doubles. The Liberty tandem of Priit Pihl (Sr., Saue, Estonia) and Jarda Trojan (So., Prague, Czech Republic) edged Appalachian State’s Ryan Brookshaw and Alex Probst, 9-8, for the victory in the #1 doubles match.

The Mountaineers then swept the singles matches despite strong efforts by two Flames for the match win. Pihl lost the first set of his #1 singles match with Probst, 6-4, only to rally to win the second set, 6-2, before dropping the match in a tiebreaker, 10-8. After dropping his first set in a tiebreaker, Braen Aneiros (Sr., Panama City, Panama) rebounded to take the second set of his match, before also falling in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 11-9, to Andrew Taylor.

With the non-conference loss, Liberty falls to 0-1 overall, while Appalachian State starts the season, 1-0 overall.

The Flames are next in action on February 11 as they host Mary Washington at 6:30 p.m. indoors at the Sports Racket.

can someone explain the 2 defaults (LU) and 4 DNF's (both teams overall)?

what is going on with this program? this is a little embarrassing for a D1 program, is it not?
the only saving grace(s) are: A. its early in the season and B: it was a non-conf match
By Helper
#5147
To clarify the DNFs, since a team needs four points to win the match, the Richmond coach requested that once four points were won by a team the match was over. All the matches were contested, but there was no results as the matches were stopped once Richmond hit four points.

Richmond was in a hurry to get to Greensboro to play the next day. It doesn't explain the defaults, but that's why four matches ended as Did Not Played.

anyone know the disposition of the supposed Georgetown match on 4/1? It was originally listed on the schedule but is no longer on it (on the official site).

also, 4/8 has us home (GW) at 0900 and away (Elon) at 7PM (in NC)- is this a split squad deal or do they travel fast?

Elon is only 3 hours away...I'm sure its doable to play GW at home and then go to Elon on the same time...pretty tiring day though.

Guess I am going to open a can of worms here, but I've been fairly well behaved, today, thus far.
What the heck do you expect the team to do with NO COACH. Only at LU can there be a coach with no team (wrestling--but that is being done the RIGHT way) and a team with no coach. UNBELIEVABLE. It will only get worse, b/c I can't imagine what recruiting is looking like for next year. What are the morons at the top smoking. It's not like they've had most of NOVEMBER, DECEMBER, JAN, AND FEB to get a warm body in here. It's amazing how many people are willing to drink the LU kool aid but don't have the sense to go to JF and get the man to make a decision.
Now, some of you will say, "We had no AD." You might be the same people who seemed OK with the AD being just a figurehead with no real power to hire and fire. Folks, it just can't work both ways. You can't tell me that someone, somewhere in the hierarchy, doesn't know that this is a real problem (not having a coach)--or did the folks that precipitated the November blood letting not stop to think. YA THINK!!!
Thus ends the Thursday evening rant!

You have been well behavied that's why I'm going to take it easy on you!

but they do have a coach and she's HOTTTT.....but really I've talked to a few of the players and they are confindent in her ability to hold down the fort until the end of the sem. and then one will be hired.....but yeah, they do and they seem to like her pretty good..as well as I 8)

they do too but the point was they are happy for the time being and then find someone in the off season...if this was a team sport I'd understand but it's kind of like if something was to happen to our golf coach, a really good looking girl could run that team for a little bit until something was found....baseball, basketball, etc could not

HMO--get back to paying attention in class. You seem to contradict our own argument in the baseball thread. A totally wasted season--this year and probably next, too, but it's "OK" because the players seem to "like her?" Yagottabekiddinme! Yet a team that is what, 11-3, who the players can't stand, is catching grief. URKILLINME!!

I guess the reason we're playing at Glass right now is b/c only 3 of our courts are actually match-worthy at the moment...the condition of the bottom 4 are just deplorable at the moment. But thats just speculation, I don't really know the whole reason
