Dennis Carter (WSET) spoke with Karl last night. Here is the text from the 6pm story:
The head official in last night's championship game was Lynchburg's own Karl Hess, Liberty University's all-time scoring leader. Hess, who had his number 11 jersey retired by Liberty in early December, rated the highest of all 96 officials that started this year's tournament, earning the head referee honors. Last night was Hess' first national championship game and third Final Four, he's officiated 22 years at the Division One level.

¶Karl Hess, NCAA Official - "I mean it's the tops you can get, so it makes you feel a real sense of achievement and accomplishment so you feel really good about it. The coaches were very cooperative and so were the kids, which made it a lot easier. You know we could talk to them and they worked with us. They knew what we were gonna do, we knew what they were gonna do and it went pretty smoothly after that. So I'd say, I don't know, maybe an A-minus."
