East Tennessee State revealed an artist's rendering of what they want to build on campus for football:

Its a vast improvement over that lousy excuse for a facility they called the Mini-Dome (aka the Ugly Airplane Hangar).

This looks like nearly an exact duplicate of Elon's stadium. The article doesn't say but I'm guessing this place would seat 7,000-8,000.

And with the grassy knolls it would be more than adequate to get them rolling unless they somehow scheduled Appy right out of the chutes in JC.

I do question the wisdom of building hills into a stadium at which many of the attendees will be sorely inebbriated but that's their problem to handle, I suppose.

However, I do not see any locker rooms included here (something that Elon neglected as well).

I do like the second deck on what I'm assuming is the home side.

We'd do well to emulate that (and the pressbox)

EDIT: now that I look closer- our pressbox isn't much smaller- but we could add luxury boxes

Well, now that i've made my joke about the artist's rendering, I must admit, the brick press box , and a few other features, are actually very similar to our home field, and ours holds about 6,700. I don't know why they put 15,000 as our seating capacity, lol.

p.s., for humor's sake, I just thought I would share with everyone that jack sparrow did his best uncle ricco impression on this field when he visited the campus.

it's that new surf turf, whatever you call it. It was installed two or three years ago.

Here's a better view, from the student side, facing the visitor side and the divinity school. It looks amazing at night when the dome and the campus are illuminated.

so is that picture above the old turf? It's not 2 toned and it looks real.

Thanks for the travelogue.

Obviously the ETSU folks are doing their best to get something tangible to sell to donors. It sounds its working thus far.

ya, that's the finished product, the other pics were during the installation. I thought they did a great job for about a mill. One of the local high schools here put in the "pro-grass" and It was just as spongy, but it looked more like the traditional astro-turf.

I've always wondered- do all these stadiums have to peridoically refill those tiny rubber pellets? I'm sure some of those things stick to the jersies, cleats, etc.

You know what the saddest thing is? We don't have one tribute or homage to Bobby Bowden ANYWHERE on that field, stadium or anywhere on campus. It's all just more evidence of priorities really are these days. The booster who gives the most $$$ gets priority over the guy who made history. The funniest thing about it is, I know from different sources I have, that he still donates to our program, but he always does it anonymously. I guess "Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell" was more than enough recognition.
