I wonder what happened. I really like both Jaworski and Theismann, but why are they dropping Theismann? I know they're keeping him on as an 'analyst', but to me that's definitely a step down. Theismann is one of the most honest sports guys out there, never shy from speaking his mind. I know some people are annoyed by him, but I think he does an excellent job. As for Jaworski, if he can get his hyperactive personality under control, he'll do great. Maybe get rid of Kornheiser and have both QB's on there, that'd be my solution. Tony's always trying way too hard to find a story for each game and each player, and it just interrupts the actual game.

Theismann was absolutely horrible. In the probowl last year he kept calling Chad Johnson "Charles Johnson". How do you not know who this guy is? He also often would make the incorrect calls while watching a replay. He does that more than Billy Packer.

micahs, you guys hate everyone not named conan. espn just got rid of one of the best for an unknown in terms of announcing, not that i don't think jaws will do a good job. it's almost like they're covering their kornheiser gaff by pointing the finger at theismann. if espn wanted to get rid of some football guys, they should start with tommy jackson and give chris berman his early pension, and keep tre wingo on the women's college basketball beat, all year long.

no thiesman was terrible...constantly saying stupid thing that went nowhere, mispronouncing and just blatantly getting names wrong....

kornheiser is probably best suited on the radio and in writing but i'd much rather listen to him than joe theisman..

I really do hate most announcer/commentators. If you can find a guy who doesn't have a schtick, who isn't constantly saying the wrong thing, and who isn't thinly veiling their obvious love for one of the teams, I like him. That list consists of

Jay Bilas
Bill Raftery (who has a little bit of a schtick but I enjoy it)
Phil Sims

That's it. That's the list.

My list is pretty short as well (thats what she said? :P ) Ok, that doesn't fit (thats w....) ok I better stop before Tally gives me a virtual slap on the wrist for being immature. Anyway, I don't like Billy Packer or Dick Vitale.

My favorites are:

Troy Aikman,
Bill Raftery (my all time fav and is sort of a Philly guy...got to spend a little time with him in the NCAA's)
Joe Buck as a PBP
Steve Young as an analyst
Gus Johnson PBP
Len Elmore - Color

I HATE to listen to Elmore call a game. He sounds uninterested and misses the call more often than not.

Troy Aikman, despite his Cowboys ties, does an excellent job at calling the game and not being obviously homeristic.

Manson, I also like Tim Scarborough as an analyst  I would have put myself in there but FSN accuses me of always talking about myself (Guilty as Charged  ). Seriously I have listened to some of my work and actually don't annoy myself  I use the word Tremendous a lot but I have been listening to a lot of hoops this weekend and everyone does. Now you guys will start to listen for it when watching the games this weekend. Billy Packer says it every other word. MRS SCAR said she would buy me a thesaurus for next season so I should have a new word or 2....The Micahs? Hilarious. Mallet, I didn't know your name was Micah too.

I think Joe is good but I never really liked him. He just comes off and very un-likeable. Jaws is likable but I don't know if he will make a good analyst. Maybe he and Tony will get along better. Tony and Joe seemed like they were on each other's last nerve most of the year.

That's because Tony doesn't belong there, but now mnf is stuck with him because of his other ties with espn.

Like others have said, there are very few good commentators out there. I also like Raftery, Simms, Aikman, Bilas (just because he's always slamming down other commentators I hate), Young, sometimes Moose Johnston, Griese, not much else. I'm also in the minority in that I'm a Madden guy, but I don't want to hear about that, I know that topic can take on a whole thread.

have any of the espnradio shows interviewed theismann today, or even talked about this? just wondering, I've read he's pretty ticked.
