I hope this isn't blasphemy to ask, but is the McKay hire bigger (more significant) than the Rocco hire a year ago?

My opinion...

There is 2 ways to look at it...Bigger No, our Football team was on life support and thankfully we brought someone in with a lot of life to breathe into our program

Bigger name: I'll give you that because he's coming from a program recognized all over the country and was a head coach...Rocco was a bigger name in Lynchburg simply b/c UVa was right up 29

With all that being said...who cares! I'm thrilled for both!!!!

Definitely. I think that at the time we started this board, we all would have been thrilled to know we'd be sitting exactly where we are right now.

Anyone have news on the assistant he's bringing with him? I believe I heard him say the name Sousee, Sousa...something like that.

my friend on the team says for the most part, all the players really like him, he already seems alot better than dunton and is actually trying to have one on one relationships with the players. McKay said he wants every player to stop by his office once a day every day of the week from here on out , and he also was telling the players that he is best friends with the head of Nike's College Basketball, and that next year they will have alot more nicer stuff, warmups, shoes, everything.

I am in no way justifying our team's lack of giving their new coach a standing ovation, but I've got 3 theories:

(1) the press conference was at 9:00 a.m., which for many college students feels like 4:00 in the morning;
(2) since the team was sitting on the front row, stage right, maybe they didn't notice the people standing up behind them;
(3) Coach McKay is a stranger to them now, and many were loyal to RD, but I'm sure Coach McKay will grow on them soon.

I was at new mexico's presser for steve alford and had the pleasure to sit with the lobo players and they gave him a standing O. it took a minute for them all to get up but they all got up eventually.

I think we might be making too big of a deal of the players not standing. It's peer pressure. They probably would have all stood up if one of them had stood up. A bunch of them were probably waiting for someone to make the first move.

I can see I'm gonna have to come down there and straighten things out.

My guess this has more to do with loyalty to former assistants at this point. While I agree that it didn't look good, its not the end of the world. We all did regrettable things when we were 18- to 24-years-old.

I forgot to mention, that I was actually there. (Yes, I drove up from Halifax...how crazy am I?). So, it's not like I'm just saying it...that's what I really think happened.

I think LIbertine mentioned this...it was sort of a slow developing Standing Ovation. And a lot of people in the crowd were in the back not sitting...so it's not like they had a choice, they were already up. So a couple got up, and then others...and I think the players were about to make a move, but the peer pressure thing stopped them before it happened.

Anyway, I'll stop talking about that now. If you haven't listened to the Sportsline interview, you should...Rich even seemed impressed at the hire...and he's not normally impressed with LU.

Does anyone know the status of RM's contract? Salary? Length? I thought I heard 5 years or maybe 4, and have heard nothing regarding money.

McKay will sign a five-year deal with Liberty. Neither Barber nor McKay would disclose McKay's salary, but Barber said McKay would be the second highest-paid coach in the Big South, behind Winthrop's Gregg Marshall.
that oughta answer the question SOMEWHAT.

my guess: 150-200k

In Chris' article, neither the coach or AD would say.

FYI: McKay's buyout from UNM is worth nearly 600K.
