That's a lot of change to throw at someone, understandably not all going to the coach, but still quite a lot to work with.

I'm not trying to be "that guy" but what reasons do you have to base a increase of $400,000...any numbers or anything to back that up with or just picked a number out of the air...again, not tryin to be a smart guy just simply asking

Well, according to Lang, VCU is spending around $1.8 million per season on Men's basketball. That's a number I could see Liberty matching -- not that it will happen but something that could possibly happen.

Fellas. Fellas. We could spend $3 million and year and will still not get where VCU is because of this 2-bit conference we're stuck in.

OK, I just wasnt sure if you were taking a stab at a number or had some facts to base a increase in are already huge budget for the BS......we're busting at the seems here, and not just in the Athletic Dept.

Maybe not athletically but financially, we can provide the same resources.

Not when your building amusement parks and space shuttles (ok, a little exaggeration, well one of them at least)

I'm just sayin LU has taken on a TON of VERY expensive projects in the last year...so while increasing our budget is not out of the question, it's just not likely....but yes, it's possible

I foresee something in the contract about donors, that is if you want to see a increased budget

this is why they need to put all the focus and resources on the school and not all these other side projects...but that is for another thread all together

I see them maybe increasing it a little bit...but not much

It's funny, if you visit every single board that we know of they all say this. Nobody wants to be in this conference.

when i say they should focus on the school, i mean athletics as well....athletics isn't a little side project

little side projects would be the LU on the mountain (not a bad thing...just not at this moment in time), the proposed Jerry Land park (or whatever they are going to call it).....

personally i think putting TRBC up here has hurt LU more then anything....but once again this is not the thread for this....nothing I can do about it anyways, so there is no reason to complain about that

I don't really know if i answered your question HMO...actually, I am not even sure what your question mean...hahaha :D

This is like the 2nd or 3rd time you've said that. Start the thread already!

well, the thing is if you find the "side projects" to be improper use of funds then in that same breath Athletics should be mentioned....the purpose of these "side projects" is to create more reasons for students to come to Liberty....if you were to take a survey you'd see that more students come to liberty for reasons such as; Ice Arena, intramural's, soon to be gravity park, year round snow skiing etc....and the amounts spent on both are comparable. Except there is only a one time fee for construction on these (after that you would have maintenance but that would still be significantly lower than the budget for athletics)

I'm just simply increasing your imagination.....of course we need athletics, of course we need these side projects but IMO not one more than the other...they are both vital and at the same time very expensive

1. Purely a west coast guy. Yes, we recruit (inter)nationally, but how about someone who is in tune with the way things are done in the south?

2. The article I posted in one of the other threads...which stated the program had issues with player discipline problems. I will repeat what I said then...
...we don't need that on this campus...especially in light of allegations of players already making a mockery of the Liberty Way (and getting away with it).

http://www.abqtrib.com/news/2007/feb/22/mckay-fired/
McKay and Athletics Director Paul Krebs have had a number of discussions over the past months, Harris said, citing in particular several discipline issues among the players.
3. Barber stated he wanted someone on his way up, not someone on his way back down. Folks, the Big South is a huge fall from The Pit.

Personally, Hanging with Mr. Cooper sounds like a pretty good idea.
BTW...just kidding, Sly and ElScorcho, on the over quoting. I understand now why we all have to be careful. 8)

Good catch on this quote. I think that completely eliminates McKay. Although I think when that was said, it was to eliminate Guillen.

I disagree. If we had $3 million a year, we would be able to do exactly what the big schools do (namely, leave a Hummer in a recruit's driveway with $50,000 in the trunk and note saying 'LU thanks you for considering us, Mr. Webber')

I don't know a thing about McKay, but it's interesting what the UNM fans had to say about him AFTER his firing.

http://www.abqtrib.com/news/2007/feb/22/mckay-fired/

Here's the one negative quote that stood out to me:
Coach Decay set this program back 20 years with is incompetence. His hiring should be known as Lobogate II. He became a rich man by talking his way into a job that was obviously way over his head. That gift of gab he has did him no good in the end. A man must know his limitations. What did we get in return for the huge salary UNM paid him? A record number of empty seats at the Pit on game night, being not even good enough for the NIT & horrible recruiting. Decay needs to be teaching bible study at a small christian high school. He does not have the people skills to be a coach. He really needs to go into a different line of work, namely, ministry. Coaching is just not for him. A man must know his limitations
With all due respect, if even 10% of this is true, it sounds like way too much baggage for LU to consider. Afterall, JB said he wanted a "COACH, not a preacher or SS teacher" (sorry Sly, this was a quote from a radio show interview on WLNI, so I don't have a link).

Those quotes scare the bijeezie out of me. From what I hear, McKay was not even going to be considered for an interview becasue of compliance issues at OSU. After all he was interviewed and guess he talked his way to being one of the front runners. Now LU is making sure his compliance and overall performance duties at UNM were better than OSU.

My opinion is he is a smooth talker and can talk his way into any job. You can talk the talk, but I don't think he can "W"alk the "W"alk (W=Wins). I think he will bring any player in or tip toe around to make himself look better on paper in W's. He is not the guy who brought in the high character players into NM. Be careful what you ask for:

The more I hear about McKay the more I think he would be a poor choice. A couple of weeks ago when I saw his record, my first reaction was "not again". I hope it is someone else, but who knows. I do have enough confidence in JB though that if it is McKay, these issues have been successfully explained and will wait until our first loss to jump on him. :D Sometimes a change of scenery does wonders for a person. We can probably all think of a job or boss we could not funtion well under.
