My frustration are the small guards that are mismatched against better teams. How many times Porter dribble penetrated to the basket and could not convert to points. At times he was one on one with his defender and he could not convert. He only tried like once and he could not score. Same thing for Mayheny because they are undersized. Then, on defense, they could not keep up.
I agree with this 100%.

For better or worse this team was almost entirely upperclassmen which mean the starting lineup is going to turnover quickly. The two guards that are constantly complained about will be gone within two years and will be replaced with some combination of the following:

Decker- 6’ 3
Blair- 6’ 6
Carter- 6’ 5

I’d probably expect to see a transfer guard as well. Height of our guards won’t be an issue for long. It would actually be bigger than Oregon’s guards. Then people can move on to complaining about the next thing.

JK37 wrote: March 22nd, 2025, 10:38 am Nobody knows what any roster will look like in two years. Unfortunately, that’s the sport’s reality now.
We’ve had the transfer portal for roughly 6 years now. How many times has the basketball team been poached? I can’t think of a single example. Preston (who already played 4 years for us) heading to northwestern is the closest I can think of. It’s all been guys that’s being recruited over and looking for more minutes elsewhere. The portal in basketball is a little more controlled chaos than football.

I’m not saying we are immune from getting poached but we have a pretty good idea what the roster will look like with the exception of the guys buried on the depth chart.

College and especially it's athletics is a business, so if you want to place your emotion into this, then it's on you sir.

Took a look at the Oregon and Arizona schedules and realized we had a common opponent with AZ. They lost their Big 12 matchup with Kansas State while we beat the "other" Wildcats in the Paradise jam. Obviously, arbitrary score comparisons of common opponents do not always play out, but it makes me like Oregon's chances.

I agree. Oregon and Liberty are my two favorite teams; I don't like when they play each other. Probably going to happen once in awhile though, as Liberty ascends to higher levels in football and basketball.

Well, I wish the transitive property would work in this case. Most Oregon fans expect tomorrow to be the end of the road for the Ducks.

Good game yesterday. I think everyone sensed that the shooting percentage was not what it normally is for Liberty, even on open looks. Still, I think Liberty will be back, and next time maybe more comfortable with the surroundings.

I didn't notice the fire in the eye thing, but Coach Altman is 9-0 at Oregon in the first round of the NCAA tourney, including twice as a 12-seed and last year as an 11-seed, so he knows how to get his boys ready come March.

Liberty basketball reminds me of Oregon 20 years ago. The Ducks would go on great runs as they improved, and then lose to Kansas with Drew Gooden and Nick Collison just getting too much in the post. Hot shooting always breaks down at some point. Gotta recruit those bigs to get to the next level.

paradox wrote: March 22nd, 2025, 4:17 pm Oregon dominated from start to finish. However, they did not take this Liberty team lightly. They came rushing out of the gate with great energy, drive, focus, execution, and hustle. And never took their foot off the gas. Altman, mostly, had a very satisfied look on his face, with a fire in his eye that burned, all the way through, until the final whistle. Interested to see how this all plays out for them.
Is it just me, or does it sound like paradox has been dipping into armchaircoach's AI stash?

He’s not referring to himself by name in every post. So he’s got some work to do

At the 15-minute mark of the 1st half, Oregon was up 20-4. The difference between this game vs Arizona and ours is that Arizona started hitting their shots. Oregon also made some dumb turnovers. Shelstad still shot way above his averages from the field and from 3.
