Hate to be a Debbie Downer here, but I think there's a good chance the events of the last few days have in fact sealed the deal on Metheny's decision to forego his last year of eligibility. Let's face it. A tournament championship plus MVP followed by a trip to the dance is something that would be pretty tough to top as a finale for his College career.

I don't see any other options for him. If he goes into the portal, he is not going to get anything better than LU. Yes, he could probably play for a higher rated school, but would not get the minutes he is getting here.
Not sure a couple of weeks playing above his season averages is enough to merit a big leap in competition. Also, I would expect that he would want to stay with the same group of guys that he knows and has a special relationship with. That does mean a lot.
Congratulations to the team on a great conference tournament. They over-achieved a little bit IMHO. Their consistency from the three point area was very impressive. Their over-all shooting percentage was also very high. They are definitely playing their best ball of the year right now.

I’m excited to see who we match up against. If this team keeps shooting like they’ve been I like our chance of beating a 5 seed. Regardless of what happens from here this has been a special season and I’m glad HCRM managed to prove he’s still the guy.

My understanding is that Metheny has no desire to transfer. He will have his Masters degree this Spring, and his plan is to get started on a career in real estate. He has family in the business.

I guess you don’t remember last year when a small but loud part of the fan base thought he was washed and wanted him gone. It’s mostly the same people that want Green gone as well.

I'm really not surprised the Gamecocks won, but the way they dominated was impressive. GT finished 17-17, and the ACC is way down, but just last week they beat UVA in the ACC tournament and then gave Duke way more competition than they gave Jax St. They also have wins over the likes of Clemson and Louisville.

I don't agree... CUSA is much better then people them credit. JSU is a solid team - got size, got scorers, athletic...

CUSA should be a 2 bid conference in every sport. NCAA continues to shaft mid major conferences in order to suck up to P4 conferences.

This. I do think Jax was the better team but if GT was trying it would have been much closer.

I feel strongly both ways.
I suspect after playing Duke tough in their last game, GT probably did not respect JSU enough.
It would not have mattered if the Gamecocks were not what they are; a very good basketball team.
