Opening up a thread as we move into the prime recruiting season for the Class of '25. We have no reported commitments as of the beginning of April. But we have a slew of offers that have been distributed.
We are up to 3 recruits already for the 2026 class. I’m kind of surprised no one is talking about it although it’s been pretty quiet around here lately.
QB John Johnson out of Louisiana chose LU over Nebraska and multiple G5 offers.
CB Moe Williams is John Johnson’s high school teammate and chose LU over several P4 offers.
DL Xavier Reed out of Florida had several offers from top G5s.
Certainly not a bad start. I always enjoy seeing us get players that other good G5s are after. It wasn’t long ago half of our recruiting classes were guys that no one else in FBS wanted.
I don’t remember us ever having commits this early before. It’s pretty normal for P4s to have a few commits this early in the recruiting cycle but it’s not as common for G5s since recruits tend to wait and see if they’ll get P4 offers first before settling.
This was fairly common for us pre-pandemic. We usually would get several kids on Junior Days. But in the post-pandemic insanity we find ourselves in 2025 it is actually surprising.
Of course if these kids get off to great starts this fall we might get priced out of these NOLA kids' market.
For the record, I am loving the work our staff has done in Louisiana the past few years. Hopefully they notice the talent just to the west. The coaching staff under our prior two coaches worked the Lone Star State hard.
