This is probably more appropriate for the Non-LU Sports forum. But it does have implications for LU. This is where we have come in college sports. There is a bit of irony to LSU who has done everything in their financial power to publicly buy athletes in recent years to be the victim of this situation. Joe Burrow & Jayden Daniels barely had time to unpack in Baton Rouge before collecting their Heismans and heading to the NFL.

On the upside, I was in Oxford (the one in England and not Mississippi, sorry CJ) earlier this year and Ellison has bought the Bird & the Baby to restore it its Inklings glory. So at least part of his ridiculous wealth is going to good causes and not just the Evil Empire in Ann Arbor.

Looks like the going NIL rate for a top 5 prospect in basketball or football is between $ 7-10 million.

NCAA won't do it - there's too much in it for them. If they do, the P4 schools just start their own thing outside of the NCAA. Nothing changes.

The P4 are the minor leagues of professional football.
The G6 are the minor leagues of the P4.
FCS and JUCOs are the minor leagues of the G6.

That's the new state of the college football industry.

I have a hard time believing these numbers. Brett Bielema just confirmed reports that Illinois annual NIL budget is $5 million and that was enough money for them to retain all of their all conference players with money left over to poach other P4s at positions of need. There's no way Michigan is middle of the pack in the big ten with 10x the budget.

Also Purdues coach that was just fired complained that his budget was only $400k. He has every reason to lie about that number and make it sound lower than it really was so im gonna take it with a grain of salt but I believe that's closer to the truth than teams throwing $10+ million at high schoolers left and right.
