TH Spangler wrote: September 27th, 2024, 11:17 pm Is it true Ian anticipated the weather and tried to get App to move the game to an alternative site, and we pay for Apps travel? If so, Salter and Cooley might be right, Apps dodging us. Apps CFP hopes are gone and nothing matters to them other than conf games. Why reschedule us, and pay us to come to Boone.
In no universe is what Salter (I didn’t know about Cooley) did excusable. Then he doubled down on it? Completely unacceptable.
When you expect a group of young men to leave their friends and family in the midst of a horrible storm where people are losing everything. When you expect coaches to abandon their families when they are in danger Just to play a football game you *might* want to recalibrate your world view. Boone is devastated right now. If these students and coaches had left, which is ludicrous to think about, how would they get back? Boone will be lucky to host their next home game.
That leaves out the whole ‘neutral venue’ problem. Where would they play? Lenoir Rhyne? Wilksboro Speedway? Wake Forest? Charlotte?

I feel sure they, like I had no idea its was that bad at first.
Salter certainly did after his first tweet

The whole “ducking” thing is wildly illogical to me. Boone is absolutely wrecked right now there’s too much damage and too much going on to worry about moving the game to Lynchburg or a neutral site or much less playing in Boone.

Also, we play in by far the worst FBS conference in our second consecutive year with an embarrassing schedule and the last time we played a legitimately good team we lost by more than 5 touchdowns (in our defense Oregon was going to do that to most teams) there is not a team in the country FBS or FCS that’s going to “duck” the juggernaut of Liberty football.

First, prayers for Boone and surrounding areas. I was in Tuscaloosa when the tornados came. No one cares about football when real life gets that dramatic.

Second, App was a good "name" and I think the environment for this game was going to be electric. I am sorry to miss out on iit. But I think the season will prove they are not a great team this year. The loss of this game is tough but it is not going to materially change our chances like if we lost a chance to play a P4 or a G5 conference champion contender. Let's hope we can find a replacement game to get to 12 and pray that it could be a resume builder. I still think our playoff chances with or without this game are not fantastic this year.

Third, I do think we need to watch the program in terms of maturity and behavior issues. Ultimately that is on the coaches and their Coastal track record allows for legitimate questions on that. However, I also believe Liberty is Christian because our leaders, faculty and staff are Christian. Students have done what 18-24 year old students are prone to do for years. I am a 90's grad and plenty of stupid, juvenile behavior happened then too. Don't be too harsh on them. They will learn for this and continue to mature.

Good luck to App's team and fans moving forward.

I can agree with your sentiment on his first post. You can chalk that up to youth and not knowing the situation. But not the second one. Knowing that multiple players did this is disturbing. Adding this to the actions we’ve seen on the field begins to become disturbing. Liberty had a chance to shine here and chose not too. Those saying App is ducking are ignorant. Take a look at Boone. I would not be surprised if they play their next home game on a neutral sight or even postpone it. It is that bad up there. But yet we have clueless ‘fans’ saying App is ducking us blah blah blah. That is completely unacceptable behavior

Translation: Liberty schedules the Elon Fighting Phoenix to fill out the ‘24 schedule…

This stinks!
Va Tech's off Oct 12th? Close by.
Speaking of Tech, the ACC took care of their highest rank team last night

Posting a duck emoji is pretty harmless. It could mean a dozen different things or maybe nothing at all. Meaningless.
Would have been better to offer words of sympathy and kindness. That would not have been misunderstood.

I thought that at first. Like maybe expressing how wet everything is. But based on other comments it became abundantly clear what the message was. It is a very immature thing to do but could have been corrected. Instead he doubled down and that’s unambiguous

False. There’s been ducking of LU the last several years.

It was wrong to insinuate. It was wrong to double down. Like most, unfortunately, change is only likely to occur if/when his actions infringe upon his ability to earn money.

Isn't the ducking response from K Salt based on the fact that App State did not want to reschedule period? It doesn't seem like it was based on the terrible situation occurring in Boone or the idea of the team not just coming to the burg/neutral site. Seems like more of these responses are based on just emotions and not knowing the entire context of that situation. Then again, that's truly the norm when it comes to social media and most things in society in general. At the end of the day, we can all hope the casualties can reduce and not continue to get even worse.

How is that ducking? It seems reasonable to think about the care and safety of the athletes students etc over a football game. The first tweet was tasteless but could be rectified. The second was classless and possibly indicative of a culture no one should want.

LUDad wrote: September 28th, 2024, 2:55 pm One thing we'll never know is if App State would have insisted on playing the game if they were undefeated, on a roll, and Liberty was ranked just above them in the rankings.
You obviously haven’t seen pictures out of Boone.

It’s not inconsequential. Excusing this type of behavior as such is a bad look.
Coach/President - The football team has time off. They should go there and help with the disaster relief as a show of good will and a demonstration of Christian service and love.
