They should burn those uniforms and never let them see the light of day again.... We look like a high school team.

Shocking!!! If we didn't pull this game off - Coach has some explaining to do...

Agreed - different defense in the 2nd half... They need to take that into next game. 4th Quarter offense came alive... I think we can talk some positives away from this game. Sometimes winning a close one like this can help fire up a team.

I was hoping last week would be the wake up call. I'll chalk this up to it being a late night game at high altitude 1,500+ miles from home and hope this isn't who we really are despite it being the same issues two weeks in a row.

Few to none. We deserved them.

Agreed.

The PI’s were puzzling. @ECC29 is right, a couple of those guys looked like they couldn’t guard someone without committing PI every time it was thrown their way. 12 had 2-3 PI’s in the game, and they were obvious.

The OL with holding was obvious. 63 is a captain? Yikes. Not his best night. The unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that got him ejected, I couldn’t see. Was he defending a teammate? I dunno. :dontgetit

The team had a weird look to it all night. And it was our leaders (63, Salter, etc.) who seemed to be the worst. Salter’s immaturity was on display through his emotions. Should’ve been penalized at least once more (took helmet off on the field, clear as day). Sideline reporter mentioned several times how frustrated he was on sideline. Team just looked…..off. HCJC doesn’t seem like a screamer, and I’m not necessarily suggesting cages needed rattling last night. But it made me wonder if someone had to get in their faces, who could?

We didn’t deserve to win because of our lack of discipline. How many stupid penalties did we have? Personal fouls, unsportsmanlike conduct, etc. I’d be steaming mad if my 9 year old soccer team did one thing like that much less grown men who know better.

That doesnt mean the team didn’t show some resolve to turn that game around, particularly the defense. Their 3 and outs and fumble return, certainly made the difference. I think the defense deserves some credit for that.

I want to caution acting like our defense played extraordinary well though, we gave up more yards to them than Southeast Missouri State. Practically the same number of points for some context.

Edit: I just read your previous post and I think it hits on my thoughts super well. The team seems to lack a certain level of discipline. It was almost embarrassing to be represented that way at times and not because of the score.

A few other notes:

I think the offense misses the creativity and spark that Bedgood brought last year.

Our O-line isn’t as good as last year and it’s obvious.

The receivers seem like they’re still trying to figure things out. Sibley is the only trusted target right now. We have potential but Salter and the receivers aren’t in sync.

The defense got to the QB way better than I’ve seen in awhile. It’s almost the reverse of last year that our secondary had to cover for too long and gave up passing yards because of it. Our line looks slightly better but our secondary is slightly worse.

Overall I think we’re worse than last year and I expect a couple losses in the regular season, but it’s a small sample size and I hope I’m wrong.

Just listened to post game with HCJC and I'm still baffled as to why we didn't use one of the nation's leading rushers. Penalties were just incredibly frustrating and unnecessary. Hopefully, this was an outlier for us and both our team and staff grow from this.

3 separate unsportsmanlike conducts is not acceptable, especially for a Christian university like Liberty.

NMSU D coordinator has this offense figured out - last year at SHSU and now NMSU. Their coaching staff brought it on both sides of the ball.

We definitely looked like a team not acclimated to time and jet lag - very slow across the board.
Salter thinking while running vs just turning on the jets ( due to their d scheme ). He kept his heart in it and didn’t fold after not being able to run and receivers dropping balls. His head, maybe not so much.

0 for 11 on 3rd down conversions until late - amazing stat for a W.

D - D Line and LB play is solid. Secondary - would like to see less man until we get better corner play. Sometimes “philosophy” has to be tweaked by what your talent strengths and weaknesses are. And yes, any coaches/players watching NMSU week before probably wasn’t too concerned about their QB - he had a JB ( Bennett ) type transformation ( 1 week a head scratch - next week - pretty solid ) The PI’s were completely unnecessary and show we lack confidence in covering 1 on 1 - yet our entire scheme is based on that - not good.

Team - do the players take ownership on the lack of discipline and fix it ? If not - 3-4 losses. Do they take the fact they overcame every adversity and stole a win and use that as a bond to make them mentally tougher ( something last years team never had to deal with ) and keep improving O Line and Secondary play?

Uniforms - I liked the all Navy last week and I liked the baby blues with Navy Sparky helmet - sue me.

Team should have left Lynchburg Thursday instead of Friday. Climate in New Mexico is different than Lynchburg. Team had very little, if any, time to get aclimatized to New Mexico air. Not to mention going 2 time zones away. I suffer jet lag going 1 time zone away.

That’s why they play 60:00, even if weak fans like you can’t stay awake and support them!

On a bicycle?

I don't want to hear anything about jet lag, it is a mind thing. (I have flown millions of miles in those cattle cars, they call commercial airlines). Now if you fly to Europe, I can give you a break. But anywhere in the lower 48? No way. Especially with these young guys.
It was the baby blues for sure. Don't know how any football player could sleep knowing they had to wear those things the next day.

Some positives, besides the win:

I thought Reese Smith had a quietly nice game. Only a couple of receptions, but they were some really strong grabs on a night when the rest of the room seemed to have a case of the drops. His snag on the comeback route (3rd & 8, final field goal drive) showed off his hands; Salter threw a bullet. He looked strong on the 2pt conversion contested catch as well, and ran some excellent routes elsewhere. If he can hit a groove, it will be a nice boost to a room that is seemingly searching.

The last time Liberty made three field goals in a game was before Malik Willis set foot on campus. After the last two years, I'll gladly take 3/4 and agree to forget the 4th.

TJ Bush looked like a mini monster, and the stat line is reflective. He was responsible for quite a few hurries, and I thought Awad looked noticeably shakier with that pressure in his face.

Looking forward to seeing the Reese + Bazille scoop and score on future highlight tapes. That was just objectively fun to watch :D
