From CFP perspective, I actually lean toward the easier schedule being a better path. Perhaps that is primarily because that is where we find ourselves right now. Frankly if the committees are going to select teams based primarily on the eyeball test and not quality P4 losses, then I can make an argument that our scheduling strategy is our best shot this fall.

Now from a fan experience perspective, bring on the best games possible. The two don't necessarily have to be aligned.

Pitbull has entered the chat! https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... ing-rights

International recording artist Pitbull has purchased the naming rights to Florida International's football stadium, it was announced Tuesday.

The FIU board of trustees voted Tuesday to approve a five-year deal to give the name Pitbull Stadium to what's currently known as FIU Stadium.

Pitbull will pay the school $1.2 million per year for five years, according to the documents tied to the vote. The rapper, singer and businessman, whose name is Armando Christian Perez, is also known as "Mr. 305" -- a nod to Miami's area code -- and attended Miami Coral Park High School.

We attended the scrimmage Saturday evening, for what was a great day overall. I hadn't seen anyone talk about it, but I thought I'd point out a few things I noticed:

1) The defense looked sharp and aggressive. They seemed to be playing with an edge and it showed on the field. This is part of what was missing last year imho. It starts with the front 7, and each rotation of players there did well. There were at least 3 and as many as 5 sacks in the 1.5 hr long scrimmage. There were no huge gainers in the run game and there were several no gain/TFLs. The offense was vanilla for obvious reasons, but I think there's reason for optimism based on what I saw. In the secondary, we also looked deep. Several PBUs and an INT from Brylan Green (on KSalt no less).

2) The offense looked a little off the whole day, but likely due to the vanilla playbook and some timing/chemistry kinks between KSalt and the WRs and along the OLine. There appears to be plenty of depth on the OL though and plenty of speed at the skill positions. Once KSalt finds his dudes at WR, things should start humming along.

3) The kicking game still looks to be inconsistent. I've dabbled a bit in place kicking in my life and in watching the warm-ups it appears that Nick Brown has the strongest leg overall. He drilled several in warm-ups and was mostly consistent there. In a game environment it was more of the same from last year. Brown seemed to be hitting the ball well and getting plenty of lift on it, but his accuracy is the issue. The other kickers were sort of all over the place. Right now, I'd say Brown still wins the job, but who knows.

During an interview, Coach Caldwell did not sound too highly of the O-Line. It seemed that there is a struggle with the O-Line. If the O-Line does not rise up, this will be a different and struggling season.

Who's coach Caldwell? Is he a new assistant?

Last years OL spoiled us. Lets hope they come together.

Chadwell is always hesitant to be optimistic about his teams in general. If you listen closely, the staff and players speak of those kind of things as “rat poison”. They have two more weeks before the first game and 3 more until we play an FBS opponent. I expect there will be a lot of progress made in this time, especially once they set the depth chart and he starters play together on a more consistent basis.

Agreed. What’s Chadwell going to say? Every position did great every practice and every game?

I went back and listened to coach Durkin from a year ago and he was very hesitant in praising the O-line a week before the Bowling Green game. Don't forget, they lost Brendan Schlitter during Fall camp last year. Brendan was a 3 year starter on the O-line.

I think things worked out well for us last year regarding O-line play. I believe in this coaching staff and I look forward to how it all unfolds.

As much as I dislike SMU, I don’t want any MW picking up a “P4” win. They will be our main competition for CFP.

Yeah, pretty much any non C-USA G5 helps us by losing their P4 games. I suppose even New Mexico losing to Montana State even helps us a tiny bit.

That being said, there’s so many games for us to play and win that it shouldn’t be a focus, but I guess that’s what fans do, right?

I don’t know how many saw this, but Desmond Howard and Nick Saban both picked LU to make the playoffs on college gameday.

It’s still shocking to me that this is the norm for expectations this season (10% chance of making the playoffs according to ESPNs predictor).

Boise State was the only other G5 school that is getting more love. Honestly looking at their schedule they’ll probably have to lose 3 games to not be ranked ahead us unless we have a miraculous season with some serious style points.

Boise plays Oregon, Oregon State, and Washington State in out of conference games and it seems like a close loss to those teams may be almost even to a crappy win on our schedule.

Ironically Boises geographical location helps them this year after the PAC 10 implosion

So you’re saying we just need the ACC to implode?

There's too much playoff talk this early. Just focus on 1 game at a time. There will be a lot of upsets across the country this season, I believe.

As an illinois fan, If that happens does that mean I have to start doing Big Ten chants and talking about how superior the conference is despite my team being terrible? I may need to get some pointers from Mississippi fans.

Spending $20,000,000 on a college football roster should do that.
