GMTM, get a clue brother. the rules as made by UNC grad john swofford, say that if you have the same record you are co-champs. yes, you won the head to head, so you get the #1 seed in the tournament. the ]NCAA puts so much emphasis on winning the tournament and less on the regular season which makes zero sense to me[/color], but when i look at the record books i will alwys see a co-championship for the 06-07 season. and you yourself said you did not want to face the hoos at JPJ....ZERO CONFERENCE LOSSES. do not brag my friend, a week ago you guys were not playing that great, and a win over duke does not make many think that you are gonna make this huge run.

They put more emphasis on the tourney because of a few reasons.

First, the ACC since expansion does not have a balanced schedule. UVA played the bottom 3 teams a total of 6 times. However a team like Duke played them only 3 times. It's tough to gauge a true champion with an unbalanced schedule. That is why the ACC tourney is so important.

Also, what is a better gauge of how a team will do on neutral sites in the big dance than on neutral sites like the ACC tourney?

Another is the fact the committee likes to see how teams have played lately and winning the ACC is as late as it gets.

thanks for that analysis casper, but it still makes zero sense. i could care less about the unbalanced schedule. the regular season means more to me than the tournament because you have played everyone at least once. a four day tournament is not a good gauge.

Singletary Named Third-Team All-American by NABC
First UVa Player to Pick Up All-America Honors since Ralph Sampson

Charlottesville, VA - Virginia junior guard Sean Singletary has been named a third-team All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The NABC All-America teams are voted on by the member coaches of the association. It is Singletary's first All-America recognition and marks the first time a Cavalier player has been named a first, second or third-team All-American since Ralph Sampson in 1983.

Earlier this week Singletary earned first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors and was named one of 22 finalists for the Wooden Award presented to the nation's top player. The Philadelphia native leads the Cavaliers in scoring (544, 18.8 ppg.), assists (134, 4.6 apg.), steals (36, 1.24 spg.) and average minutes played a game (958, 33.0 mpg.). He ranks fourth in the ACC in scoring, second in free throw percentage (.884, 167-189), second in three-point field goals (75, 2.59 pg), sixth in assists, and 10th in minutes played.

Singletary has scored in double figures in 19 consecutive games and has tallied 20 or more points in a game 12 times this season. He was named the ACC Player of the Week in consecutive weeks on Jan. 2 and Jan. 8.

The NABC currently includes 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. The organization was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas.

Leitao Named NABC District 5 Coach of the Year

Charlottesville, VA - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has named Virginia men's basketball coach Dave Leitao the District 5 Coach of the Year. Earlier this week Leitao was named the ACC Coach of the Year by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. Yesterday the NABC named Virginia guard Sean Singletary to its third-team All-America squad.

In his second season at Virginia, Leitao led the Cavaliers to a tie for the 2006-07 ACC regular season championship with a conference record of 11-5 and compiled an overall record of 20-9. It's the fifth time Virginia has won or shared the ACC regular season title and the first time since 1995. The team was picked to finish eighth in the ACC in the preseason.

UVa's 11 conference victories are the most for the Cavaliers since they won 12 ACC games during the 1994-95 regular season and it's the first time Virginia has won at least 20 games since the 2000-01 season.

The 2006-07 season is Leitao's second as head coach of the Cavaliers. UVa finished tied for seventh in the ACC with a 7-9 conference record last season after being picked in the preseason to finish last in the 12-team conference. Virginia finished the season with an overall record of 15-15 and participated in the National Invitation Tournament.

Virginia begins play in the 2007 ACC Tournament in Tampa, Fla., with a quarterfinal game on Friday (March 9) at 7 p.m. The Cavaliers are seeded second in the tournament and have a first round bye. UVa will play the winner of a first round game between Duke and North Carolina State.
