App State is going to get an invite to a bigger conference sooner or later. Between their success on the field and an engaged alumni/fan base, including a huge following in North Carolina, it honestly shocked me that Charlotte instead of the Mountaineers got the invite to the AAC.

It's just funny to me that a bunch of our most elite public schools are engaging in behavior that even for profit professional leagues would consider a step too far and I see a bunch of liberals online complaining about how capitalism is ruining sports. I guess they miss the irony that it's a bunch of government run organizations that are selling out for a quick dollar.

Throw in the fact that realignment has all been about money, and undercutting the have-nots in order for the haves to profit. No better example of liberal elitist hypocrisy than American academia, especially college athletics.

Academia was always about the buck instead of integrity and truth. The face of America's general education board was John D. Rockefeller. What were you guys expecting? SMU raised $159 million for athletics this past year. Now that's commitment and a statement of moving forward and not staying behind. That's good for them! I know, folks would say that they have a bigger following and have been around longer than Liberty has. Nonetheless, K-Mart was there longer than Wal-Mart, Blockbuster was there before Netflix. A vision can't go anywhere unless it's act upon. Being the outsider and trying to be accepted by those with silver spoons will go nowhere unless the outsider do the unexpected. Guess being the big fish in a small pond is always the safe way to go .

SMU is a very unique school. It is one of the smallest FBS schools but has an exceptionally wealthy alumni base. Those with Big Oil money tend to send their kids to Dallas. It is by no means difficult to gain admission, but VERY expensive to attend. It is essentially the primary rich kids' school in Texas. Trust fund babies historically tend to be very generous to their alma maters. The you factor in the plea to big money donors to buy their way into the ACC and that number is outsized to the reality they will face moving forward.

The Netflix analogy is actually ver appropriate. Much like that operation whose massive growth was built on innovation in distance based on their old DVD model before on-demand web access was a reality, we seized upon distance eductaion when few others recognized the opportunity. I agree that continued innovation is key to financial sustainability.

Leaving behind the Big XII to free themselves from little brother syndrome had sound reasoning at the time. In spite of their academic standing, A&M has much more in common with the bubbas in the SEC than the Rust Belt crowd. If the B1G really valued the Lone Star State they would have made a more concerted effort to snare the big brother in Austin who fits much closer to the B1G profile.

Do I think it is possible that the B1G has been talking with some big money A&M donors to gauge interest? Absolutely. But I believe the A&M Regents would never sign off on such a deal ... UNLESS it was just a piece in a bigger puzze that led to a P1 or breakaway.

How credible is your buddy? Does he have sufficient sources to even say this or is it just his own opinion? With that being said, how beneficial is Texas State in this scenario? Market wise maybe? Why not add SDSU and UNLV for more exposure in the west before the PAC comes running?
