Nope. It was a joke, and everytime someone complains about something being done that they should've been doing, I will point out it was their responsibility to do it.

Hopefully, we will soon be at a point where the students can still sit wherever they want, and it is like one big group. As in, there would be enough students there to pack the place out. We are just one or two winning years away from that though.

new for this week

Mr. Barber,
Since Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) is considering Official Play Review, is there any chance Williams Stadium could possible have a "Jumbo Tron" in the end zone for play reviews?

Daniel Stevens
Lynchburg, Va.

Daniel,

I would love to have this type of scoreboard at Williams Stadium. As you know, they are very expensive, but hopefully, we can see something like this added to the facility in the near future.

I thought that money was "donated"

I was about to type that same exact thing.

By the way, do they plan on planting grass around the outside of that thing? It looks great with the trees but the big huge dirt spots kinda put a downer on it.

I've heard it both ways about the money. I don't think it really matters much and I was just trying to make a joke. One thing is about as necessary as the other is really. I really don't want to talk about the M word.

The "thing" refers to the LU monogram.

Talk about lobbing a softball. Great job Daniel Stevens. Wouldn't a better question be, are we going to get TV cameras in The Bill so that it can be broadcasted? Heck you gotta get that before you get a jumbotron. Which is probably one of the last things on the to-do list.

Ok, thanks, I figured it was something I knew about, but I was thinking about something in the football stadium.

From those who run the place: first on the agenda is getting the closed-circuit TV up and running for the new luxury suites. I'm guessing it would be the first step toward broadcasting it like they do the other sports- but you techies out there can clarify the procedure on that.

why would you set up everything you need and then not broadcast it when you have your own TV station? 2 TV stations.

I figure once they get the closed circuit going there'll definitely be tv games.

Then we can have the "How Many Times Does SJ Get On TV?" count. I'm pretty good at it.

SLY/SCAR explained that- something about fiber optic or T1 lines or something not running back to Vines.

Then there was the theory about a truck/van to broadcast it back .

I have no idea what I'm talking about. Can you tell?

all I know is- they didn't have the "wiring" in place to do it. Guessing if they wire it for CC-TV it would'nt be AS HARD to take the next step.

Basic problem #1: The stadium is not wired for TV like the Vines Center is.

Basic problem #2: This requires a live production truck and production trucks must be rented and paid for well in advance.

Basic problem #3: Pre-JB, the person whose decision it was to get said trucks was/is not a member of the athletic department.

There's been some noise about webcasting the games -- much like the Big South's The Edge -- which would require much less production value but I don't know anything for certain.

A simple webcast could be set up for less than the price of a typical student's used car. I'd love to see us make the investment necessary to utilize our control room at the Vines. But we've beaten that horse to death. Even the old Lynchburg Cablevision had its own truck that they used to broadcast L-Mets & L-Sox two decades ago. Its not dirt cheap, but it is not unreasonable.

Of course if we had someone running that new television station who made LU football a priority I have a feeling it could be done.
