Welcome to Mobile. For those heading down, here's some information to hopefully make your trip a little better. Please feel free to send me a message or post any specific questions or comments.

Hotels:
Downtown is the best place to stay- Battle House, Hampton Inn, Riverview Plaza, Hilton Garden Inn are all on parade route. Ask for a balcony room at Hampton. I believe the team hotel is the Riverview. Holiday Inn and Admiral are also good. All downtown hotels are walking distance to bars/restaurants.

There's a hotel right across from stadium but all of the bowl fun will be downtown. Game is about 15 minutes from downtown on South Alabama's campus. Brand new facility and great place to watch a game

Mardi Gras parade Friday night is a blast. Kids and adults will love it. If you're coming in Friday, make sure you're in town no later than 5pm because downtown will be crowded for parade.

Lots of good restaurants downtown. I'd make reservations at the following:
Noja - http://nojamobile.com/
Noble South - https://thenoblesouthrestaurant.com/
Chuck's Fish (ask for upstairs) - https://www.chucksfish.com/location/chucks-fish-mobile/
Southern National - https://southernational.com/events.html

No reservations needed:
Debris Po Boys
Loda Bier Garten
Wintzells Oyster Bar
Callagahans - awesome burgers cool neighborhood bar
lots of others

TP Crockmiers is right in the middle of the entertainment district. I'd make this a meet up spot for Liberty fans. It has a big space upstairs and a balcony over looking Dauphin Street. From here you can easily walk to parade route, bar hop and easy walk to all downtown hotels. Downtown Dauphin Street is like a mini bourbon street without the strip clubs and urine smell.

I'll post specific information closer to game but hopefully this is a good start. Also I have no affiliation with any bars, restaurants, hotels just a Mobilian who is happy to help out. Email is oleriver10 @ yahoo.com

Here's some info on bars (mostly on Dauphin St) All easy and safe walking distance to all downtown hotels.

Veets - across from Riverview Plaza. Hole-in-the wall bar with great live music. Doesn't get going until after 9pm. Older crowd
Loda Bier Garten (I'd start here then bar crawl. Hundreds of beers on tap)
Haberdasher - great drinks, nice crowd
Battle House hotel piano bar - classy place for a glass of wine or drink
Post - very good drinks
There are two breweries just off Dauphin St - Braided River and Old Majestic. BR beer is awesome. OM has the better atmosphere

There's quite a bit planned for the day before, but do they have any events around the stadium on the day of the game? Especially for kids...

For South Alabama games there's one jumpy and an inflatable slide outside the stadium. I'm guessing the bowl will likely have the same. Not much at all. Once you are on campus there's not much to see or do except tailgate. I'd check back with LT website for specifics

There's a restaurant across from campus called Heroes that has tons of tvs, good food and drinks. It has a nice fenced in backyard area with turf grass where kids could throw football and run around before game - 36 Hillcrest Road

If weather is nice there's a park a mile from campus - I know you or others didn't come all the way to Mobile to play at local park but it's not a bad place to run around and play before the game. 200 Parkway Street West, Mobile, AL 36606

I'd do my "tailgating" downtown or possibly on the USS Alabama.

They have Whataburger and Buccee's down there. If you're doing fast food, I wouldn't waste my time on a place i can get anywhere. Especially, BK. Just my opinion. But enjoy your trip and the game!

Here some things to do/see in Mobile:

USS Alabama
Carnival Museum
Gulf Quest Maritime Museum
Crescent Theater - nice one screen theater https://www.crescenttheater.com/
Bienville Bites downtown food tour - https://www.bienvillebitesfoodtour.com/
Spring Hill College - nice campus and great place to run/walk if weather is nice
Dauphin Island see Fort Gaines and nice walking trails
Gulf Shores / Orange Beach beaches - kids will love LuLus restaurant then head to the Hangout and enjoy the beach
Downtown Fairhope, AL - shopping
- Sunset Pointe - lunch / really good food
- Hope Farm - dinner make reservations
- Wash House - dinner make reservations
Grand Hotel - Point Clear, AL park and walk the grounds. Right on Mobile Bay. When walking out to pier continue down boardwalk along the bay. If weather is nice it's a great way to get out and spend a morning or afternoon. You do not need to be a hotel quest to enjoy the property

If you have kids you might want to check out Bellingrath Garden's Christmas Lights (get there before they open b/c traffic is terrible)

This is awesome. Are you with the Chamber of Commerce?🤣

Because you are doing a fine job. Even if I don’t make it to the bowl, I am now convinced I need to visit some time.

Thanks again for coming by!

Tonight is the Mardi Gras Parade and Pep Rally. The parade rolls at 6:30pm and will feature floats from 20 mystic societies, local high school marching bands and the bowl teams’ bands and cheerleaders. The best place to watch is in front of the Hampton Inn hotel, Battle House hotel, Riverview Plaza (I believe this is the team hotel) or in Bienville Square. Just find a spot behind the barricades.

The Pep Rally follows at 7:30 p.m. with marching band and cheerleaders. It will be at the corner of Joachim St and Dauphin St - right near LODA Bier Garten
and TP Crockmiers. After the parade, just walk straight down Dauphin Street and you'll run right into it. Great spot!

Weather is looking a little better for Saturday. More scattered rain than steady. And still warm.

Feel free to ask me any questions. Hope everyone is having a good time.

These "mystics" do not perform magic. Make sure the kids have bags to carry all of their throws especially moon pies

" A mystic society is a Mardi Gras social organization in Mobile, Alabama, that presents parades and/or balls for the enjoyment of its members, guests, and the public. Mobile's parading mystic societies build colorful Carnival floats and create costumes around each year's themes. During the Carnival season, the mystic societies parade in costume on their floats throughout downtown Mobile. Masked society members toss small gifts, known as throws, to the parade spectators. The throws can take the form of trinkets, candy, cookies, peanuts, panties, artificial roses, stuffed animals, doubloons, cups, hats, can coolers, Frisbees, medallion necklaces, bead necklaces of every variety, and Moon Pies. Mystic societies in Mobile give formal masquerade balls, known as bal masqués, which are almost always invitation only and are oriented to adults. Much of the memorabilia from these occasions can be viewed at the Mobile Carnival Museum."

Let the record show the magic comment was sarcasm.

The whole Mardi Gras deal is tough for us non-Catholics to get. I recognize it has scant religious ties but it is rooted in Cajun-Creole culture.

I figured it was. I just read up on the Liberty Way and understand where our Mardi Gras celebrations could be frowned upon by some. Either way I hope everyone has a great time!
