for you bracketology nuts- here's the projection as of 1/26:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncw/bracketology

our Lady Flames are projected to represent the BSOUTH as a #13 seed vs. #4 Georgia in the Denver regional.

we'll have to wait and see.

Well, first we gotta beat High Point in the conference tourney (and hopefully do it at home)...otherwise its nothin but a longshot at the WNIT for us (if that if we don't win the regular season championship). And why would they send two east coast teams all the way out to Denver to play each other? Thats just stupid...like having UVa and ODU play each other in Minnesota last year...I know, host sites and all of that, but c'mon, there's gotta be a better way to organize by both seeding and location...geez.

As far as facing Georgia...for some reason, the selection committee seems to like us playing them...we've already met 3 times in the first round in the past, and lost all 3. I think the key for us to get past the first round (assuming we make it) is to hope the selection committee doesn't match us up with an ACC or SEC team.

I agree the key will to not be seeded against a SEC team. I am not sure what the selection committee had for us playing the SEC, especially when we were faced against Tennessee because we were both undefeated.

Here is a article from that game against Tenn.

High Point (14-5) has bumped our Lady Flames as the #13 seed vs. #4 Georgia, as of the latest rankings released 2/13. This time the game takes place in the University Park portion of the Bridgeport Regional. Someone let me know when the powers that be make up their collective minds- I'll be in the corner banging my head against a brick wall.

In terms of the small conferences, the people who do these things just look at the first-place teams in the conference and pencil them in. Since High Point holds the head-to-head right now, that's why High Point is being slotted instead of Liberty. Both teams are very similar in terms of RPI, though, so I imagine they would be pretty interchangeable in terms of seeding.

Liberty definitely has the edge right now since they host High Point. The path is the same for both teams: win out, and you host. But High Point has to come up here and get a win. I'm curious to see what the crowd will be like Saturday. If LU can pull it off, the UNCA game will be the toughest left on the slate in my estimation.

Apparently ESPN didn't get the memo that High Point lost to UNCA...when you scroll over their seed, it says "Undefeated in Leauge Play."

On Collegerpi.com it has us as a 13th seed against 4th seeded Kentucky in the Cleveland Region. We have beaten Kentucky at their place a few years ago.

Was about to post that. I could dig a trip to Chicago. Please, any place but Norfolk again. I beg you. I've already been there twice this year for games.

Latest bracketology has Flames playing BYU in Denver as a 13 seed. What an interesting clash of religious cultures that would be ...

I'm sure Jerry would love that matchup since he always compares us to BYU and ND.

I was telling someone about 2 weeks ago that if we were able to make it and BYU held their RPI, that would be too good of a match-up for the NCAA to pass up. We shall see... first things first though... got to win the BS.

Coach Green mentioned today that Conference regular champ would get a bid into the NIT. Not that we want to think about that but has that gone into affect this year?

According to womensnit.com:
WNIT expands field to 40 teams

The Postseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament will change its format for the upcoming tournament, expanding to 40 teams for the first time in the event’s history.

The eight-team addition was made to accommodate a specific goal: The WNIT wants to give more playing opportunities to teams who win their regular-season conference title but don’t capture their conference tournament and the ensuing NCAA Tournament automatic bid.

In the past, some of those teams did not have any chance to play in the postseason, but now the WNIT will hold an extra eight spots for them.

The selection of the 40 teams for the Postseason WNIT will involve two components:
1. Thirty-two (32) spots will be filled by the top teams available based upon the selection criteria as used in the past.
2. Eight spots (8) will be held for a limited number of automatic berths.

Automatic Berths for Regular Season Champions
Eight spots will be held for teams that were not chosen as part of the 32-team selection and meet the following criteria:
- Won their conference regular-season title
- Did not win their conference tournament
- Did not receive an “at-large” bid to the NCAA Tournament

Note: Should more than eight schools meet these criteria, then the top eight schools will be selected from that group based upon the WNIT’s selection criteria used to identify quality teams. If fewer than eight teams meet the criteria for a regular-season champion automatic berth, then any remaining spots needed to complete the field of 40 will be filled using the WNIT’s selection criteria.

Its the same for both men & women now that the NCAA is running the NITs. But lets not even think about this worst case scenario.

Though I think LU would've been an NIT team either way (with or without the rule).

Not necessarily. Those decisions are made based on ticket sale projections and not always calibre of team.

Latest Charlie Creme projection has Flames as a No. 13 in Tucson playing Georgia.

I really, really would like it if they got shipped to Tucson ... but I'm selfish. I want to see all my old Arizona peeps. :)

I was talking to Jerry Palm of collegerpi.com today and he now has us at 45, should be interesting to see if we can move up a few more spots seeing that most teams are done with there conference tournaments.

I think they adjusted it mid-morning, GMTM. I thought it was strange that they had New Mexico and ASU coming out to play in Norfolk. That makes a lot more sense. U-Park would be fine. Just no Norfolk. Repeat after me, no Norfolk.

I'd be happy with Tucson...perhaps I could convince the missions team to make the trek from Casa Grande to watch them in the first round
