again dickens show his inept ability to make judgements? are you in practice? do you review film to see where the breakdowns come from? have you dealt with the personalities to see who is committed at the defensive end? no no no...but your a blogger and a self proclaimed expert.

I am just using facts to back up a statement....Smith is a good defender, but doesn't actually stop people

lureal, come on.....you of all people should not even mention anything
What have you ever said that has any proof of being true.....

Remember, I use facts....

Nice facts you used.....you say there stats are the same.....what defensive stats are you referring to...ill ask again. Offensive stats(those are you referring to provided by media realtions) aren't relevant when discussing someone defensive ability. Are you really trying to say Brew is an equal defender to Smith??

And your lead is a total John Kerry statement.....bravo.

huh??

I put the defensive stats.....I never said Brew was better, I just said that Smith is not some great defender

Brew is averaging .83 steals a game.... and has 10 blocks in 18 games
Smith is averaging .88 steals a game.....and has 7 blocks in 26 games

Smith averages more minutes a game at 28.3 while Brew averages 25.3

Rocketfan, you should have figured it out by now that you cannot stump me.....But, honestly who has Smith stopped from having a okay game?? I am sure there are a few games but he didn't stop Brewer from Florida, Jenkins did well against us, Caleb Green had a good game against us, Williams from VMI had a huge game, and AZ Reid had a good game against us as well..........

that is the facts, we haven't really held a high scoring player to a low game

I really wish one of those stats you put up had something to do with the actual opponents production against them..... Im not sure if you can actually measure that, but itd be nice to see like maybe everything(how many times they threw it towards them, as in brew may average one steal a game but maybe thats because they try to exploit brew so his man gets the ball more) Im not saying I agree, I just wish like manger would come out with some crazy unheard of stat that no one could find even if they were trying to. Its much more complex than steals and fouls and minutes my friend.

As for comparing them I have no answer except that there were a couple times where he just came up flatfooted and got blown by. Obviously thats not a stat its just a "I noticed that a couple times"

smitty didn't stick green or AZ. he held leasure to 13 points and blocked him 3 times in our first meeting, Smithson from asheville didn't do anything over here, sumpter from longwood was on shackles in lynchburg, and how about the job he did in all 3 meetings against Shuler last year. he is a good defender

I never said he wasn't...who was guarding Green then??? The best individual scorer we have played all season....I was just saying you cannot call Brew a bad defender......

Brewington is a bad defender. That's the one hole in his game. He's not fundamentally sound on the defensive end. He gets some steals and blocks purely through his athleticism. But he didn't stand a chance against Leasure, not with that kid's ultra-quick release.

I think the point of Rocketfan's posts was, these are the only defensive stats that are kept and they certainly don't tell of how good of a defender someone is. Just if they have a knack for stealing or blocking shots. There are no records of altered shots, forcing a time out, breaking up a set play, or just plain harrassing someone.

Thats True... But Brew is Long and that works to his Advantage SOMETIMES.. I love the kid to death, but he is Sloppy on D. He comes up with some Big plays on defense but he is streaky On D. I think he will get better and be a great defensive player, but right now, hes not doing anything amazing on D

Hey, Larry Bird was a bad defender also, but they called him a great 'team" defensive player. Look, it you are going to be the salvation of the program you should be on the floor. Period. It is very hard to rescue a team and lead it to the promised land if you are not on the floor (Unless you are M.L. Carr)
Unless of course he wasn't as good as we were promised? Maybe his former school knew something we didn't? no of course not

If all return, we have

BJ, TJ, Brew, JHoll
TB, ASmith, Kid from Hargrave, Rell
Ace, Lamont, Russ, Nigerian Nightmare, Armon

All will be a year older and seasoned. Hopefully I did not miss anyone. I think we should be a pre-season Top 2 in the BS.

What do you think?

See, on paper it looks really good. But I just don't see LB as being so easy to replace. I don't think we realize how much he'll be missed. I mean, an automatic 15-20 points is a lot of slack to pick up. Not to mention opposing coaches always have him in the back of their mind when planning for a game. I'm not saying we'll be lost without him, I just think it might take more time for this team to "find" itself next year without him which means a rough early season. Meanwhile, haters will be banging on Dunton's door with torches and pitchforks.

I'm so tired of statements like this. Talk about Dunton, that comes with the job, but don't take these cheap shots at LB. He will go down as one of the best players to ever play here. I know you will come back and say something like well if I took 20 shots a game I could score 20 ppg too. Whatever.

Thank you Larry for all you have done and all that you mean to this program.

Larry's great, no one is denying that. The talk about more of a team is basically the Ewing Theory.

Larry is so good that everyone relies on him to pick them up. They're not forced to carry their own weight because he can carry everyone else's. With him gone, it's possible everyone will pick their game up and play together better.

okay manson, take the tampon out now

I was just saying there might not be anyone taking 20 shots a game that are sometimes bad shots....

The players might take better shots, or we have alot of RETURNING talent....

never was I throwing anything negative toward Blair
