You guys are obsessed with the word woke. Does calling peoole "woke" over and over again get you into some cool Fox News club?

I may not completely get this but it is peaceful and will without a doubt continue the conversation.

I think tonight is an example of one team doing something that was righteous and just - the Milwaukee bucks wanting to forfeit to prove a point because they are the home team to the situation - and others being moved (good) or feeling pressured (bad) to stand in solidarity with them.

The Bucks were willing to forfeit a playoff game to prove a point! That’s huge. That got co-opted by others and it turned into an even bigger thing.

What conversation? What did kneeling do? What did putting names on jerseys do? Absolutely nothing. Oh but there was a “conversation “. Yeah, like no one was talking about it UNTIL the NBA quit playing. Please. Now, the focus is on the NBA being stupid instead of all the BS going on in Kenosha

it did nothing. You're right and that is their point.

I don't completely agree with it but I totally understand it. Nothing is changing. Nothing will because people are too stuck in their echo chambers.

What? Let’s do something because it accomplishes nothing? I guess you score Dumb Az points that way.

Because nobody is listening. Instead they tune into fox news to hear Tucker Carlson trying to justify a 17 year old kid shooting someone using vigilante jusfice.

Anyways, I know better than to discuss these things here but sometimes I can't help it.

Also bubble life is probably putting them on edge. I'm kind of joking but I start missing my family when away for a while even when I'm staying in nice hotels. These guys are human after all.

Yeah. It’s all Fox News fault. I’m guessing Tucker has replaced Hannity as the new Boogeyman?
No one is listening because no one cares when NBA players just pull stunts like this. Here’s a much better idea. But one they would never do because you know, they’d actually have to do something. Why not donate their playoff checks to help rebuild the business destroyed by last nights riots? Pay for the schooling of the guy who was shot (whether justifiable or not) by police? Why not pay for the funerals and medical expenses of the dead and wounded in the Kenosha riots? They did THAT, people would listen. Because THAT is doing something. Not this SJW Participation BS. So go back to watching your MSNBC and how awful everyone who criticizes the NBA is

Yep. Cause some of those League Minimum players need the money. And the rest don’t want to give up their paychecks. Bunch of clowns

Heard less about it too.

I did chuckle at the thought of watching msnbc. No thanks. Good to see that you've got jokes.

But Tucker is just as bad as Don Lemon which you bring up often.
Oh I know they’ve paid for funerals on an individual basis. Bully for them! But if they are so self righteous to want to do something donating a game check as a team would garner a lot more conversation and action then pouting on the sidelines. How is them not playing helping? Oh yeah, people are having a “conversation “.
You must assume I watch a lot of fox. What’s wrong with it if I do? I generally get my news from actual press coverage of events or clips from different places. And it is utterly impossible to be more stupid than Don Lemon. The only reason I know of him is because all the stupid crap he says

No. What they did was stupid, self serving and does nothing to address the issue or alleviate the problems. Now it’s all about them, not the Kenoshaites or whatever you call native Kenoshians

I had it on in the background at my hotel last week. It was truly awful. I gave all 3 a chance and just....ugh. Eventually turned it off and went to my Audible book. It’s truly a toxic wasteland

Yeah, that has been the best part of working from home. I don't have go hear cable news all day.

The worst part is it is really screwing up my sleeping.

Anyways. I was really enjoying basketball unlike most on this board so I hope cooler heads prevail. I too, think there are better ways. I just am not so quick to just dismiss them all together I guess.

Bucks should have had to forfeit, and should have been fined by the league. The stupid NBA social issue crap isn't going to do anyone a bit of good. Fans need to do a 100% boycott of NBA. Keep social issue bull_____ out of sports.

You drive a lot. Check out the ESPN Daily podcast for today. Malika Andrews - who’s in the bubble - talks about some of the things the Bucks did as part of their boycott.

Unlike the other teams who just latched on, they spent the time during the game on the phone with the Wisconsin Attorney General asking him how they can actually make change and what they should be demanding from leadership. It wasn't just a PR move of "woke-ness" for them.

Donating a game check gets three sentences in the C-block of Sportscenter and everyone moves on.

Refusing to play gets an entire new cycle or two.

If we're talking about conversation and awareness, not playing is obviously bigger.

It can't stop at not playing though. They have to attach action to their protest.

They were willing to forfeit the game. The Magic refused to accept the forfeit. But, like normal, you refuse to actually educate yourself on a topic and instead just spew nonsense about everything you have an opinion on.

As a Magic fan, and just a NBA fan in general I think the only misstep the Bucks really made was not letting the Orlando Magic in on what they were planning. They would've been more than happy to help in any way they could have. George Hill did apologize for that so no worries.

A lot of these players do a ton of stuff within their community on a regular basis whether it is monetarily or just time spent with other organizations but that gets very little air time. The majority of NBA players are good dudes doing a ton of good work in their communities that almost always gets overlooked unless the NBA or the team decides to send a camera crew.

I'm not so sure of that given the ownership of the Magic.

Also what the Magic organization does in regards to these issues almost always conflicts with the politics of the DeVos family. Which is always poked fun of by Magic fans.
