GCU before the campus move and the for-profit status was a nice little Christian college. They have maintained their Christian reputation but have not been as outspoken about faith as we have been.

Count me among those who doesn't see Mueller interested in our opening. As I mentioned earlier, we are not exactly an attractive location right now for most of the candidates we are discussing. Undertaking a complete reorganization at a scandal-plagued university in a national spotlight will take a special person.

I probably missed a few words in there, but I was trying to keep up.
Jonathon is really a pretty stand up guy. He could be bitter about so many things, but chooses to take the high road. I know Jr. took his football suite away from him, just a few days before the season began, a couple of years ago. He already had the tickets and someone had to go get them back from him. There were many other more important things as well, but I have first hand knowledge of this particular event.
I know, like all of us, he isn't perfect, but he is much more respected than his brother. I do believe he has a true love for those in his congregation and loves the Lord. I know he exceeded my expectations as a successor to his father. Something Jr. never did.

Indeed. We would likely be served well by an individual who is ready to sit on the big seat at a similar institution where that seat is already comfortably filled for the foreseeable future.

This is a joke right? Good grief - a politician? Here we go.

https://www.wfxrtv.com/news/local-news/ ... ource=t.co

Funny how this guy was out first and immediately with a statement when the boat pictures broke and was given a high profile press.

And coincidently isn't running for re-election this fall. What perfect timing. Its amazing this just happened to come together and work out just perfectly.

The fight is now for LU. Hopefully this is just Walker trying to orchestrate himself into a role and not pre-determined.

You have been wrong about this on every level. You really need to just sit this one out and open your eyes and ears on what is going on.

If you think all we need are minor tweaks even after all that has been confirmed the past 2 days I just don't know what to say. You just continue to baffle me.

I am probably keeping my expectations too high. I don't know...I'm just kind of sad about this at this point. I have a degree from this school, I am responsible for at least 4 people who decided to attend Liberty because of my glowing recommendations. It is just disappointing more and more every day.
It’s a tendency you seem to have. One day you will be old and jaded like the rest of us :D
Actually it would seem my expectations for people who claim to be Christians somehow continues to be higher as I get older. I wish it wasn't that way, it would be much easier to just shrug things off.
You speak of it as if you have no control over it.

I have control over it obviously but I see the world much differently than I did when I was 20 and even 30. i have seen so many family and friends fall away from the faith because of stuff like this so it is more important to me than ever to hold those in leadership in Christian organizations to a high standard.

That is one of the many reasons I have chosen to have these sorts of expectations and believe it is important for real accountability. Without it, we all can and probably will fall.

Ok Zig Ziglar. LU just dumped the Son of its Founder. A move you repeatedly said didn’t need to happen That’s a pretty big move. But if you think only “minor tweaks” need to happen enlighten us as to what they are?

Pretty good article on where we stand

“Let’s just say they hire someone who has been at a mainstream Christian university like Baylor or Pepperdine or Samford and is respected by their peers in academia, that will go a very long way,” the first insider said. “There are a lot of really serious people there, and it is a pretty awesome place. If they use this moment to reset and rebrand going forward, they could be a pretty significant force in the coming years in Group of Five college athletics.”

But with Falwell now out of the equation, Liberty might have its best chance at relevance and acceptance in college sports. It will be up to the school’s new leadership to take it.
Honestly this is really encouraging. While I still obviously want a focus on spirituality and academics in the next president, I hope athletic ambitions also stay as they have been, except undeterred by Jr. now.

Athletics is a big part in getting funds for a school, so it would be foolish not to pursue in athletics also. I don't think it's profitable to go into the Sun Belt or CUSA though. We'd make more money getting paid to play P5's and we wouldn't have to share the profit with other schools. If we can't get into the AAC, then Indy and the A-10 is best in my opinion.

I have a lot of respect for Jonathan. Do I think we need to move on from the Falwells? Yes, but if not then I can support him still being involved. As for Becki's children, do we really know if they are biologically Falwells? Will there be 50 something "pool boys" coming forward to claim paternity? :?:

I'll also like to add that the new President plus other leaders will need to rework the relationship between the school and donors. They need to know that they matter and all the contributions that they give are appreciated. Definitely need to improve that department for sure and expand the boosters for athletics.

It’s nice to see that Junior put such detailed thought into his endorsement of a Trump. Lol

Rather, Falwell said, his endorsement stemmed from a prediction by Mark DeMoss, a former Liberty board member, that Trump would win the 2016 election. DeMoss “hates Trump as much as he hates me,” Falwell said, which prompted him to back the president.”

Why are you so rude to Ballcoach? He loves Liberty and deserves to have his opinions. I don't think anyone was wrong. Some voice for his immediate removal over things that weren't always concrete - others, like me, wanted to see the best in a person who has done a lot for the University. I was wrong, but would have handled it the same way. I don't like the public bashing, but when things became clear - it was an easy decision to jump on board. Liberty is going to be a desired position. There are no long scandals at Liberty. There was a President that lost his way. The University is thriving - no lack of students applying, no lack of funds, athletics is on the rise, our locations is great and our campus is unbelievable. Anyone would jump to take this job. The bones are there - we just need someone that will keep us on that path and willing to make some hard decisions when it comes to staff.

I personally would love to see us bring some talent back that we lost over the last three years. Steve Peterson, Kevin Hartless, Matt Zealand, Jay Spencer, etc.... These were people that really cared about the University and know where we have been and where we need to go. And won't get pulled away from the mission. We need to give every faculty member a substantial raise and consider giving tenure. If we want to be the next Notre Dame or BYU - we need to act like it and give same benefits to our frontline workers.

Ballcoach is like the crazy old uncle we all have. He drives us crazy but at the end of the day we love him. He is a retired Army SNCO, he has pretty thick skin.

@prototype,I disagree with your premise that this is simply a case of a president losing their way but I know from your past history that we will have to agree to disagree. I do appreciate you admitting you were wrong.

I too would love to see some of the names we have lost over the years come back. We have had some very talented people walk away from the school for various reasons. So though you and I may disagree with the extent of Jr's fall, I think your 2nd paragraph is something we can all get behind.

Thanks for sharing your perspective.

@prototype I’m going to keep asking him to clarify his positions and keep asking him for facts to back up his claims He has a loooong history of saying one thing then acting like he never said it. He has a long history of making flat out false statements. You are absolutely right that he has his right to his opinions. But we have a right to ask him to defend his positions. Pointing out absurdity with absurdity is the most entertaining route to take. All others have failed.
As a side note I’ve met ballcoach in real life. We did not come to blows :D
