Definitely a good get...and at 6'6" he reminds me of Big Ben with his height and skill set.
A couple things that distinguish the triple option (especially the way guys like Paul Johnson and the other service academies ran it) and the "zone read/RPO style" option
1. Triple option, especially the way schools like Navy and Georgia Tech (where Paul Johnson retired from after Navy) play it, runs out of a double wings formation with the fullback behind the quarterback. Zone read runs out of pistol or even full shotgun
2. Zone read/RPO the primary read is the backside defensive end. When the QB makes that initial read at the mesh with the RB whether in pistol or single back shotgun, he has basically two options, run (via the give or the keep) or pass. With the triple option you actually have 4 potential reads from three options: Either give to the fullback on the dive, pitch to the wingback, keep with the QB or pass.
3. WIth the zone read/RPO, there is the singular point of deception to the defense and that is at the QB/RB mesh. With the triple option, you can deceive the defense at the dive mesh with the fullback, you can run counter option flowing the play one direction then pitching or handing off to the other with the wingbacks, or via the QB dropping back to pass instead of taking the corner on the option run.
