While everyone was consumed with the new arena and the 2024 football schedule, We had the first real sporting event yesterday in a couple months at Darlington, SC . William Byron won Stage 1, but later wrecked.

I was watching Formula 1- Drive to Survive on Netflix. Much more entertaining. Makes NASCAR look pedestrian.

Yes. I have never been a race fan other than the great one held at Indy every year. Several years ago Mrs Purple and I stumbled across the Monaco Grand Prix and sort of made it yearly ritual to watch. Now after watching the F1 series on Netflix I’m kinda excited for the F1 season.
What we noticed in our day of racing was that the F1 cars were just rockets (even though that’s a pretty winding track). Indy cars can just flat out get it all day long. By the time the NASCAR race came on that night it was sort of meh. They weren’t as fast. The pit stops weren’t as jaw dropping. I guess it was the difference between watching a Spread Offense then a Power “I” offense.

I watched most of it - lost interest after Byron had no shot. LU will be main sponsor with a great paint scheme honoring 2 vets - I think next stop - not this coming Wed race.

17 laps to go in Coke 600. Bryon is currently in 6th place about 6 seconds out of 1st. LU car has placed a bunch of impressions on screen.

Dang - He ruined Team chance for a W with the blown tire 2 laps to go - was hoping at least another team mate JJ would benefit and get the win out of the mess. Patriotic Paint scheme tight - but 2 and 3 car popped better on TV with white background vs blue ( same gripe I have about blue football helmets )

JJ disqualified following post-race inspection. Probably hurts less since he didn't win.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the Bubba Wallace noose fiasco. I thought this tweet from the Babylon Bee was was on target.

PH, first thing I thought of as well. (scary huh)?
I can't imagine anyone in the nascar family doing something like this, especially with the very limited access to the garage area.
Not saying that it is not possible for there to be racism in nascar. But you basically trust those people with your life every time you race.
I did think the pre-race stuff was very cheesy and focused way to much on the incident/non-incident. But it seems that is the way things are going right now.
Ready, fire, aim.

Best possible outcome.

Did the knot look like a noose? Yeah it honestly did.
Did the crew member do the right thing by reporting it instead of vigilante justice? Yep
Did NASCAR take it seriously instead of sweeping it under the rug? Also yes.
Did the correct government agency investigate and come to a quick and truthful solution? Of course!
Was the display of unity Sunday a moment our country needed? So much yes.
Was there actually a hate crime? NO! What a praise!

It wasn't a hoax. No one fabricated evidence. There was a legitimate question raised and investigation run. It wasn't a waste of resources to determine that no crime was commit. It's not the job of the crew member to give the FBI a slam dunk case. He saw something and said something. That takes courage, integrity, and conviction.

What a praise that everything worked the way it should and there wasn't a hate crime. NASCAR set the example of how an organization should react.

I'm glad the country got to see that the drivers and crew supported Bubba dispite on track history. We needed that.

The cynics on both sides are pretty well aggravating.

This was the picture released by NASCAR. I can completely understand why a driver and team could've mistaken this as a noose. It certainly looks like one to me.

Image

It wasn't a hate crime but nobody seems to know why the garage door rope was tied in that manner when, for some reaaon, it was the only NASCAR garage door rope tied as a noose and it had been that way for some time.

ESPN wrote:Phelps said NASCAR conducted a thorough sweep of every garage area in all 29 tracks at which it races, a total of 1,684 garage stalls.

"We found only 11 total that had a pull-down rope tied in a knot, and only one noose -- the one discovered on Sunday in Bubba Wallace's garage," Phelps said.

I'm glad this wasn't a hate crime but the mockery Bubba Watson and his team has received is ridiculous. He has been the center of NASCAR's decision to ban the Confederate flag and I can only imagine some of the awful things people have said in messages to him and his team. Just take a look at his social media and read a lot of the replies and it is easy to see why he and his team were quick to jump to conclusions. The fact that it looks just like a noose certinaly doesn't help things.

I haven't watched his interview with Lemon where he says it was a noose but it was tied like a noose. Is that really to be argued?

Anyways. I just got back from camping for a few days and decided to jump right into this fun discussion.

Didn't you miss me????? :D

They deserve every bit of mockery for the double down. NASCAR drivers did the right thing The Sports World Rallied around Bubba. He had the chance to transcend and transform the conversation. He could have gone a long way to ending the whole Confederate flag nonsense. But nope. Apparently he just wanted to win the short term . I know this is from Breitbart but I love Nolte

I disagree but I also didn't watch the lemon inteview and probably won't because I can not handle listening to Don Lemon and feel refreshed after getting away for a few days and I don't want to mess that up haha.

That’s how I felt a couple of weeks ago when I just sorta lost track of things. I didn’t see the Lemon interview either but the continual doublIng down on what now is obviously a nothingburger is not helping. Who ever found or whoever made it will never come forward now. It’s a death sentence

A rope can be a noose without it being a hate crime targeted at an individual. That rope is clearly tied as a noose. It just wasn’t targeted at Wallace since it’s been there since last year so that’s why it’s not considered a hate crime.

It would be like if I left a pentagram in my house after I moved out and the next person to come in there was a Christian a year later when I decided to sell it. I wasn’t targeting the pentagram at any specific person since I had no idea who would be coming into the house and seeing it the first time a year later, so it’s not a hate crime, but it’s still blatantly a pentagram.

It's baffling that anyone would say that knot isn't a noose. Someone please tell me how this knot differs from a hangman's noose. We aren't talking about the gauge of the rope. We're talking the semantics of how a hangman's knot is tied.

The knot that was tied in the rope is a VERY common fisherman's knot. I have tied that knot a thousand times. I just tied one exactly like this to hang a bird feeder in a tree. Yes it looks like a noose, but a real noose has several more wrappings around it. Just go to your local WalMart, go to the fishing section and look at the pre-tied hooks.
My storage unit rope pull has a knot in it, very similar to the one in the garage. It was like that, when I rented it.
Another thing to consider is how hard it is to pull on a straight rope, without your hands slipping.
Finally, since it has been proven that the knot has been there for some time, it was not meant for Wallace, or anyone else. In hind site, it was a huge over-reaction.
The interesting thing is, that it is obvious that Wallace seems to have selective outrage. The man who is paying him, Richard Petty, is in pictures, all over the internet holding a Confederate flag. Doesn't that make him a racist by today's standards?
I am not implying Petty is a racist, I don't think he is by any stretch. I do not place blame on Wallace exclusively for the over-reaction either. He had LOTS of help. I just believe one has to be consistent in their reaction to things. My .02. 8)

The common fisherman's knot is called a UniKnot. There is a single visual difference between it and a hangman's noose. That difference is on a noose, the loops are the exterior most part of the knot. That is, the third cord in the body is inside the loops on a hangman's noose. On a UniKnot that third cord is outside the loops.

By intent they have different jobs. A hangman's noose is intended to be capable of sliding. No good UniKnot would.

Bryon was leading near end of Stage 2 and ran over debris on track, cut a tire.
He had his LU car today. Good PR while running up front.
