We should give SU all the respect in the world. They are a great opponent, have a long history of playing big-time football and are traveling to our place for the biggest game in our short history. We have a long way to go to get where they are, but we will make it one day........................ pretty soon.
Realistically, it is unimaginable to pick us to win this game. I do believe in moral victories in these types of match-ups. Hopefully we will accomplish that this weekend.
I will be honored to attend another "first" in the history of LU athletics.
That's a healthy attitude for a football fan.

I don't think it's impossible to beat Syracuse, a relatively young team on the road for the first game of the season. Sadly, I watched them lose at home to a mediocre Middle Tennessee State team in 2017 (I think). So, they can be beat. Talent doesn't always win.

I would think your chances would be a lot better if all the Hugh Freeze medical issues thing didn't happen. He's a really good coach, but it's first year and it will take a while for his system to get installed and his players to be able to execute it.

Like Syracuse, having a good coach can make all the difference in the world. It just takes a little time.

Enjoy the ride.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL Clemson put up 51 points on us last two times we played them COMBINED and you think liberty will put up almost 60 in one game? I’ll be right here Saturday after the game to see the fallout of this beating y’all are about to get.
I get so amazed at how these "1 winning season out of the past 4" SU fans are all of the sudden so high on their overrated team. Two seasons ago the fan base was hinting calling for Babers to resign. Amazing what one lucky season can do for a teams ego. LOL! I'm not sold on SU. I predict a close game with Liberty pulling out the victory late! Possibly OT
It was obvious to the fan base in Syracuse from day one that Dino Babers was the right man to lead the Orange. The fan base has never called for Dino Babers to resign; not even close. That is total B.S.

As the poster you are mocking points out, Clemson has scored 51 points in the last two games they've had against the Orange. The Orange have scored 50.

The Orange have a good team. They might be overrated, it's hard to tell at this point. But what is evident is that they have a solid defense, returning 8 starters from last year (including their freshman all-american safety), outstanding special teams (their freshman Lou Groza award winning kicker), and a few questions of offense.

They are also much deeper than Liberty. The pace they play at will challenge Liberty severely.

Your quarterback is going to have a very long day. Your O-line is going to have their hands full with Alton Robinson (94) and Kendall Coleman (55). Those two are simply amazing to watch and they are seniors who have started since they arrived on campus; their work ethic is beyond laudable. Here's a look:

Good luck, Saturday; you're going to need it.
Look buddy. I live in the SU area and was part of the SU fan base, You obviously have not been a fan very long. First 2 seasons of Babers contract was not good and there was talk of calling for his resignation if he has another loosing season. So he pulled a "rabbit out of a hat"last season. Maybe they beat Liberty, maybe they don't , but SU has a long way to go. So stick to reality...don't pipedream after one successful season in 15+ seasons. SU pace was a big killer for themselves last season. Only about 3 teams they beat last season had winning records! SU has more to prove then Liberty. I don't know if the SU players can stand the pressure. This is the perfect game for SU to loose!

Your quite the fan, aren't you? After what SU went through with Robinson, the brief Marone reprieve, and Schaeffer (how ever it's spelled), there was a lot to repair and rebuild. Anyone with eyes could see that the year 2 4-8 record was not the same as the year 1 4-8 record. The team was bigger, faster, stronger and competitive in every game; indeed, they beat Clemson, which is something.

The team now is a good team. Will they repeat a 9-3 or 10-2 regular season? Who knows. Last year was not a rabbit out of the hat; it was a good team, playing hard and having success. All you can ask of the team this year is for them to play hard and we, as fans, can hope they continue their success.

If, after year 2, you were calling for Babers' resignation, then, well, what can I say. I know exactly the type of SU fan you are. I read posts from your ilk everyday over on the SU board.

Too bad you can't just enjoy the ride.

Seriously. Haha

We have a prediction thread and it turns into a who is a real Syracuse fan contest. Maybe they are feeling nervous and just can't admit it. 😂😁😂

Ha, ha, maybe!

Sorry to hijack your thread; it's not nervousness although I have no idea how either team will play on Saturday. It just bugs me when something good is happening and people just want to take a dump on it. I think it's PTSD from so many bad seasons up there.

I'll let you guys be and head back to the SU board.

Good luck; hope your coach feels better. Long live football. :BS (I don't know what this emoji means...)

Genuinely perplexed by some of the attendance projections. We had a guess of 20k? Really? Had more people for Montana back in the day.

Weather = perfect
Opponent = nationally ranked
New coach = check
FBS = check

Attendance = 25,009 +

Prove me wrong.

They are still hawking tickets this morning, and apparently there are even some student wristbands available. I expect a great crowd, but I don't think we are looking at a sellout.

I believe the wristbands are gone. That is what gets students into the student section. What are available now are the student tickets which get them into the standing room only section.

But there are still 2500ish tickets available online. This is the problem you run into by giving tickets away for free or discounted for so long.

If that’s all that’s left they will be gone by kickoff. Our crowd is not used to this type of game yet. So it’ll take some time to get people to quit waiting on walk up.

You are spot on regarding the problem of re-educating our fans to the realities of FBS. As long as the word is out there that there are still seats available, I think we will get enough walk-ups to put us over 23,000 and break our attendance record.

As a fan of both schools, I'll ultimately be happy no matter who wins. I do expect Syracuse to win though. I do think it'll be close though. The key to a close win or loss or a blowout win by SU is obviously how much our D has improved. If our D is similar to last year it'll be a long game. But I think our biggest problems last year was coaching. The only game we were completely outclassed was Auburn. The North Texas game had an exception with the weather, but obviously they were the better team.

I'll be rooting for Liberty today, but expect SU to win by 10. We would've had a better chance of the upset had Freeze not gotten ill. The 2 and half weeks of not really having him on the practice field and then not having him on the sideline will be the difference. Babers is very good coach and him on the sidelines with the Orangemen is the biggest difference for me.

So for poops and giggles, I'll say SU wins 43-24 with 26000 attendance.
