Atrain, so you are one of those big time Flames Club spenders that let you eat inside with the AC? Ballcoach and I only have the basic membership. But if you ever want to enjoy an outdoor tailgate, you are welcome to stop by mine!

I am a little higher than "basic membership".

I can have Burger King deliver some Whopper Jrs. to your tailgate location.

I don’t even know what I get for my membership. I’d rather tailgate personally

So I’m a first time season ticket holder. My question is where would be the best place to park?I’m not tailgating, but I’ll probably stumble on someone else’s, since it’s just me. Just wanting to see what y’all think would be the best free spot since it’s changed a lot since I’ve been to Lynchburg.

If ingress and egress(To Wards) are important the Orange lot is undefeated since VSP got involved in traffic control.

I believe the bookstore lot(Yellow I think) is a big tailgate spot and on The Walk to the stadium.

The lot at Lahaye is growing for tailgating and some other programs like Commuters, LUO, and LUOA do some tailgates out there too.

Anyone have some tailgate updates?

I'm hearing through another Cuse fan that the grassy lot next to Extended Stay America will likely be LU students only.

I was suggested to look at the Lacrosse Fields. It is close to a mile walk but also heard there will be a shuttle running every 15 mins.

I was invited to join in a reserved lot with 5 parking passes (due to my group's size) but I really don't want any issues as I expect 50-60 of our 80 tailgaters to be drinking beers (including yours truly). It might be better for us to be out by the Lacrosse Fields. Any ideas?

Think you are right on track and considerate with your plans. I am sure there has been alcohol consumed in the regular tailgating spaces, but it is usually kept under control. As long as no one gets visibly/highly intoxicated, you will probably be just fine.
Hope you have a safe trip and that we can give you a little bit of a game. I am a LU fan of course, but we have not been in the "big leagues" very long and respect your past history/successes. Hoping for a huge upset, but not expecting one. Happy to be hosting an ACC school for the first time.

I had a parking pass in the Orange lot last year. For the first game I got there later than I wanted to and had to park pretty deep into the lot. It took over 45 minutes to get out of that rather small lot! If you park there park as close as you can to the exit lane with direct access, not a row that merges into the exit lane.

For several years I parked in the Yellow lot. If they still allow it, you can take the road in front of the new Business building past Vines to the entrance ramp on 460 West. Fastest way out.

A good free option is street parking on Liberty Mt. Drive in front of Doc's Diner. It's an easy walk to Williams and after the game it's a very quick exit to 29 by going south and coming out behind Chili's.

This is by far the best option. Doesn’t allow room for (safe) tailgating, but as far as parking and getting out it is the best option.

I know this may not be a popular opinion, but I agree with ballcoach on the alcohol on campus. What happens off-campus is a whole different story, but you are opening up a massive can of worms when you make it okay to drink alcohol at your tailgate party before the game.

It’s been happening since tailgating started in 2006 and no one has been obnoxious about it. Just be discreet and polite and you’re fine.

Anyone caught drinking alcohol on campus should be banned from campus for life. Drinking on campus shows a disrespect to the university. One can go to a football game and not drink. I have probably been to as many, if not more football games than anyone on this board. I have never consumed alcoholic beverages on a campus.

(just my opinion. I know most people probably don't agree)

It's not that we may not agree. We disagree with your delivery. Bold is poor delivery that will make people resent you. Underlined is a coherent thought that is the beginning of a reasoned argument.

Let's get theological!

CHRISTIAN LIBERTY

I think we can conclude that the consumption of alcohol would be a sin for ballcoach15. Then don't do it.

I think we can also conclude that the consumption of some alcohol is not necessarily a sin for some on this board. Do or don't.

The Bible tells us not to gorge ourselves. And even Jesus when performing his first miracle didn't only stop at turning water into wine, he turned it into a fine or aged wine! Let's also not forget that wine was passed at the Last Supper. For the same reason the Catholic Church is looking to rephrase "Lead us not into temptation" it is important to know that GOD WILL NOT TEMPT US. The turning of water to wine and passing wine at the last supper cannot then be temptations.

As with all things, the sin lies in the heart of the sinner, not in the object being used to sin.

Myself, I wouldn't drink on campus. It is a rule and I do my best to follow the rules. I'm long past the days where I don't follow a rule because I think it is stupid.

I don't think LU should change its rules but we also need to realize that not all fans hold our faith and convictions to submit to authority. As long as people aren't obnoxious with their drinking nobody is going to care.

Thankfully ballcoach doesn't speak for the University.

If you didn't know directly that someone was drinking at a Liberty game, you'd never know. We don't have rowdy tailgates or people walking around sloppy. It's done respectfully and discreetly.

If someone is being obnoxious and blatantly drunk then yes, don't allow them into the game. But if it's non-Liberty students of legal age being respectful then just look the other way. It's part of what's going to happen if we want FBS football.

If we ever play West Virginia in Williams Stadium, people will see first hand why alcohol and football games don't mix.

LU played at WVU. Is there something about the change in venue that affects the alcohol absorption?
