I for one am willing to take TG at his word regarding his reasons, and also give him credit for perhaps recognizing a change is needed. In addition to the mixed results on the field, the disappointing attendance in the last couple of games may have played a role in that. He was always proud of our fan support, and especially the students.

IMHO we need to take the discussion of his replacement back to the ¨next football coach¨thread.
Amen. I've known of Turner Gill since I was stationed in Nebraska and he was the QB of the mighty Nebraska Cornhuskers. He was a hero in that state, and he had the same classy demeanor then that he has today. I've always liked him and wish him Godspeed in his next life, whatever it may be.

If that is true....woah. IMO Dailey is the smartest mind on that staff and has likely had other opportunities. If I'm McCaw, I would offer Dailey a job as interim head coach just to get through the December 19th deadline and take my time with this. Dailey may even prove worthy of running the ship long term.

Thankful for this man's leadership for the football team. He was focused on glorifying Christ first and foremost in his life and it impacted the players on his team. May this next chapter of Turner and Gayle's life be full of more opportunity to showcase their love for Christ. And I pray that Gayle's condition gets better.

I couldn´t disagree more. Dailey still had a job because we found a QB it took him 3 years to mess up. Unfortunately he ultimately managed to do it. Hopefully it´s not too late to coach him up for a great Senior year. As an OC, his offense is totally predictable and lacking in imagination and as a QB coach, none of his starters have really gotten better and 2 have regressed.

I'd have to disagree with that completely. The two best QB's in the history of the program are under his watch. I watched Woodrum from HS through and he was vastly different by his last year. I wasn't a fan of Calvert when we signed him and while I've warmed up, I still think a lot of his mistakes are on him...not the coaching staff. Just keep this in mind. LU exceeded expectations this year and did so with the 123rd ranked defense. The offense ranks 48th in points per game and 59th in yards per game.

If you asked me, how did LU win six games in 2018? I'd refer you to Dailey before anyone else on the staff.

I have always respected Turner Gill. I am well aware I have been unhappy with his performance as a coach but I surely hope nobody ever thought I doubted the kind of man Turner Gill was and still is. I respect him and hope that him and his wife make on the other side of this battle. He will go down in history as our coach during our first FCS playoff run and he also coached us to our first win in the FCS playoffs. He lead us well and I think cleaned up some things that needed to be cleaned up. For that I am thankful.

Dailey. The best mind???? Ha. Cmon. Take away agg and see how good his mind was.

Agree with jon all the way around.

Im stunned.

Recruiting wise. We have 9 and most are kids committed to school or family related. Not a bad time but we have to move quick.

Appy state is now open too.

I didn’t say he was an offensive genius. I said he’s the smartest on the staff. Who is smarter? Why?

That bar isn't very high and not to be a personal hurtful comment. I have always said TG is a good man, just not a good football coach. Dailey would not be any better and would be a disaster hire. I am sure that Ian will get us the right guy. Looking forward to a new direction. Very excitied ot see who is next up.

Im also glad to see the board handling this news with grace and decorum. There were more than a few people who were wanting to see a change at the top and now that it has happened, you don't have people trumpeting the news eith smug satisfaction or some other classless reaction. While i never got to meet Coach Gill, i can tell i would have enjoyed his company and mentorship off the field.
