I work at the newer waffle house across from campus and I get to talk to some of the players. Pulling from those conversations, it really does seem like a lot of them feel the playcalling is a major issue. And understandably, they are pretty frustrated. That might explain some of the poor effort plays we've seen.
Where is this Waffle House Study

The best part of the post game interview with Gill.

That terrible decision falls completely on the coaching staff no matter how much they want to throw the player under the bus.
THIS! So TG left it up to the QB for a 4th down and inches on your own 14? Then, makes it clear whose call it was. This bothers me. Take some d^&% ownership of your place as a leader! Stop with the "it's so and so's fault! Winning season or not...this seems to happen to much and is not the mark of an effective leader.
Want to offer a different perspective. One has to go back to the root cause of the problem. As much as i would like to, I don't see TG blaming this on the QB. The play was called to be an option, based on how the defense lined up, not on what Calvert thought was the best way to execute ie. pass or run. I do not believe TG is trying to throw Buckshot under the bus and blame him for passing the ball.
HOWEVER, the root cause of the problem is that there never should have been any call made, except to punt the ball. TG made the decision not to, which as stated earlier, I believe to be the dumbest call I have ever seen in watching/playing football for more than 55 years. TG is responsible 100% for the eventual outcome.
What was the biggest play of the game, the one that turned the tide and completely changed the momentum of the game? Going for it on 4th and inches, early in the 3rd quarter, deep in your own territory, down only 7 points? This is just a great example of why he is not qualified to coach at the FBS level and will never be the person that is capable of taking LU where we all want to see it go.
This decision, in addition to playing hurry-up football late in the 4th quarter against Troy, with the lead BTW, should leave the subjective observer no doubt that his decision-making ability is deeply flawed.
I hope the university can find a place for him to contribute, far, far away from the football field. He is a good man, just can't coach.

Probert had no shot on the 51 yarder against the wind. That was a time we should have went for it. Typical totally backwards.

Also, remember right before season gill and wimbo said weve never had this kind of competition. We can truly go 2 and 3 deep af most spots. Now suddenly its a personnel issue and were not deep enough.

Every week hes showing another reason of why the move has to be made.

With only 7 commits and about 5 who you really care about securing i think gill is starting to feel the heat again.

If we come out of the offseason with anything less than a d coordinator change i will have no faith in leadership. Id still make the full move if it were me but anything less than a D shakeup is just a joke.
I remember.

Way to take that out of context.

This was well stated and I used the bold feature on one specific statement for emphasis.

I was out of town working, so I never saw the game, but I have to ask two questions:

1. How much time was left in the game when we went for it on fourth down from our own 14 yard line?

2. What was the score when this happened?

I did not think LU had a real chance to win this game unless UVa completely dogged it. Buckshot had a very poor game and they (UVA) were ready for the passing game. I thought overall LU showed very well and should gain confidence that they can compete in FBS.

1, I recall and read that it was early in the 3rd quarter.

2. We were behind only 7 points. Wanting to say it was 24-17.

I was expecting us to lose. It followed the script of
1) Terrible defense, especially the linebackers and secondary
a. Also does anyone on our team know how to tackle or mark their man??
2) Buckshot forcing throws into double coverage resulting in needless INTs
3) Absolutely ridiculous playcalling on both sides of the ball
a. Everyone in the world except Buckshot would’ve run for it on 4th and 1

I turned it off after UVA went up by 14 in the 3rd. We didn’t even give ourselves a chance. Like others on this forum have said, we have the talent to beat anyone but the coaching to lose to everyone.

Why in the world was this game blacked out on ACCN on ESPN? I watched it at a friend’s house on FOX College Sports Florida. Super frustrating initially but glad I was able to watch a little bit of the game. Hope it doesn’t happen next week.

These growing pains into the FBS are hard to live with but I have hope we will actually win these games in the future. Being potentially 6-6 has definitely exceeded my expectations for the season but knowing we could be 8-4 will make it hard to deal with wishing we could’ve gone to Orlando.

I know I only mentioned Buckshot in my post but that was relating to his choice between Peyton and AGG. What you said is more of the deep rooted problem with our staff and I totally agree with you here.

I am afraid that is what he meant. I am not sure many outside of our circle got it.
However, I am sure our Lord and savior has my bowel movements predetermined but I still may select to squeeze or not and take some responsibility for my actions.

Wondering the same thing. I’m over 7 hours away from UVA, 445 miles away and they blacked it out at my house. :BS

The game was blacked out in areas on WatchESPN in regions where the regional sports network carried the game. So if you were in an area where Fox College Sports Florida was showing the game on cable, they weren't giving up the rights to allow ESPN to show the game online in their coverage area.

The game is now available on WatchESPN for replay to everyone.
