Butt it would've been shocking for Eddie & Marshall to not be in the rotation despite his sour grapes speak in DD's column. I sense that once you're in Groh's doghouse, it's really hard to climb your way out. I think that was part of Eddie's thinking for transferring. I don't think it was all just because he wasn't going to start. Didn't hurt that his best friend had just transferred to LU either.

I firmly believe the potential is there for us to go 8-1 with our current schedule. If it happens is a completely different story. Do I expect it? No, I don't.

I've said since I got to this school that I believe the year to discuss the P-word is 2008. We will be in a position like Coastal was this year with a very senior oriented team (Brock, ZT, Rashad, Greiser, etc).

This upcoming year is the year to take our 6-5 record and win a couple of those close games to bump it up to 7-4 or 8-3.

8 wins would be solid, it has to happen because to keep the students interested you have to keep on getting better, and I believe 8 wins is a good goal to have...the playoffs would be nice, just not realistic at this point...you have to be nearly perfect on the season to do that playing in the Big South conference...

I understand the concern with being too overly optimistic about all of these transferes coming in especially our team's aweful performance on the football field the last years but lets not sell this team short. Lets compare LU to Coastal the last few years. I don't think that we are that far from Coastal as far as putting a competitive team out there. The last 2 years we gave them close games and look at what Coastal has done: Beat then #1 JMU, knocked off Furman last year, and went to the playoffs. Next year we might be at that level (Coastal's) and then some. All we need is a chance to compete against the Furmans and the App States of 1AA. If we don't get that chance then we are screwing ourselves.

As far as the reason for 1A transfere to transfere down, I think all 1AA teams are in the same situation. I can think of 3 transferes who helped there teams win 1AA national championships who otherwise would have been "buryed in the depth chart if they stayed with the 1A teams they were with: Eric Kresser, Andy Hall, and Justin Rascatti are the names that come to mind with those who transfered with little hope of starting or playing and leading there team's to a 1AA national championship. The transferes that are coming in have a lot of potential as most of them have started at some point at the 1A level and things kind of didn't work out. We are bringing in talented transferes and we need to do is fill in the gaps with our recruits and players that we already have and lets hope that an experienced QB in Brock Smith can get us to the playoffs.

I am not going to make a prediction about our record until I see the final schedule come out

Yeah, we took Coastal to triple overtime when we went 1-10 and they only won by 2 down there this year.

sources are saying that carson-newman will be on the schedule for this year. i know it's a D2 game, but a darn good one. and as SJ said earlier, it is very possible that app or hampton will fill out the schedule. it could cost us though!

I hate DII games as much as everyone else (probably more). But if we have to play a DII then C-N works for me. I've maintained for years that Ken Sparks should've been our hire back when Sam left. He's a quality man on and off the field. Even though C-N isn't as closely linked to us philosophically as they once were, giving some Baptists a chance to play an FCS school is better than Savannah State.
