I was watching the ODU game on YouTube this morning, and we definitely are dropped the ball on our short passing game against Army. We had a ton of success slinging the ball around and getting it to our playmakers in space or utilizing the RPO look. I still think someone like a Kliff Kingsbury or other coach from a pass heavy (but not pass centric) offense would be a huge boon for us

Seth Littrell - Stud. Klingsbury - no one respects him.

Worst thing we could do, is expect a coach with 7 years of little to no improvement, to all of a sudden become a great coach, find a personality and show a sense of urgency. Not going to happen boys.

That’s behind a paywall, but it’s a great article on Terry Bowden.

Since coming back from tv, he’s had D2 success and FBS success. At 62, he’s stated he only wants to coach til he’s 70. Unlike his dad, he’s adapted to the game changing.

In the past, I’ve been against a Bowden or guy who has been out of coaching for a while. But he’s proven he can still build something. He may perfect fit the mold of guy at the end of his career looking for one more challenge before handing it off to someone else.

We played him twice when he was at Samford early 90’s. Really well coached teams - lines played borderline dirty under him - I liked him because he was the only one on field or either sidelines shorter than me...

Would LU be a challenge he’d want to take on? I like your reasoning. Not sure this would be a good move for him. BUT if he wants one more shot at some limelight LU might be the answer

He currently makes $350,000 less than Gill. So it could be a nice little addition to the retirement fund.

He also said in the article he likes being at a place where he gets to lead the program through their firsts... first bowl win, first xx win season, etc.

BJ would be a marginal upgrade from Gill. The Bowden name is still strong in football circles. Not sure he is the right guy, but it is certainly worth consideration come December.

Interestingly, Art Briles is also 62 years old. Question is, is he toxic or was he railroaded?

Art Briles court motion (also listen to the plugged-in interview of Phil Bennett...):

Student who makes charge of being gang raped by football players states "Art Briles was a good and faithful man"

Also interesting...

The odu game put a bucket of ice on his seat too. We aren't searching for our first FBS win.

I am all for giving Gill another year regardless ( preferably if he competes and wins 5 games, doesn’t lose to FCS team, plays UNT, Troy and UVA respectable - and recruiting class is solid ( real slow so far for 2019 ) but I want to see what he can do FBS level with better recruits. Triple Option and road games against teams with 3500 fans aren’t his forte - nor would they be for a lot of coaches - all that said Briles strength beyond his brilliant Offensive mind, was his amazing connection with TX HS football coaches to steer recruits to Baylor - that dries up more after each year he is absent ( on top of the parents who take a dim view of him - and yes there are still a lot of loyal TX HS coaches who feel he got railroaded and could sway kids his way at his next college stop ) his son Kendall knows the offense inside out and wouldn’t be near the contraversy - but frankly I don’t like him or at least his persona - always seemed like a young punk on the sidelines when he was briefly the play caller at Baylor. There are other Seth Littrell type coaches out there - Ian will find them and if they succeed, JR will pay them to keep them - when the time is right. For now BEAT UNT
