As frustrating as the past few seasons have been, I'm pulling for him as well. For as critical as some on here have been and calling for a new coach, I'm guessing that deep down in their hearts, they aren't actively wanting HCTG to fail this year. They want him to succeed, even if they aren't sure he will. And in full disclosure, I'm not completely sure either, even as I'm hopeful that he does.

The perfect coaching situation would be a consistently successful Turner Gill. I have absolutely no fear of ever having a scandal with him and am absolutely positive that he leads with Christian University when recruiting. I either want him to turn the corner or be bad enough to get us a new coach. But he is doing what Andy Dalton has done to the Bengals. Too good to move on from, not good enough to excel.

As BJ has stated, I am one of those who was pushing for a new head coach. I do hope Gill does well hand have a miraculous season. I just would like him to get out there and engage with the community more and to make LU football a community event. It would be nice to have winning seasons as well; I know we can do the same with a new coach who is a believer in Christ. Nonetheless, it doesn't look like Gill is that committed and he doesn't even look like he's there during the games and even in interviews. Well, I hope for the best for the boys in their first FBS season.

Coach Gill has taken Buffalo to a Bowl game, and he will do the same for LU--maybe even THIS YEAR. :koolaid :clapping

Someone said this earlier in this post, "we’ve not been good in FCS". I can't speak for the years of FCS football before I got to LU in 2005. But, Since the end of the 2005 season we have had 13 straight winning seasons in FCS football. I remember someone doing a piece before last season saying there were only 4 other teams in FCS who had that many winning seasons straight and JMPOO and North Dakota State were 2 of those 4. I think saying we have not been good in FCS is an unfair statement. If we were to have 13 straight winning seasons in FBS what would be our perception of the team? I know the last 3 years have been disappointing especially with the talent and resources we have at our disposal. I am right there with each of you on that fact. Yet, we have continued to have winning records in each of those 3 seasons. When we look across the entire landscape of college football something becomes clear, it is really really difficult to continue a winning tradition of football whether it is FBS, FCS, D2, D3 or NAIA. 13 straight seasons of winning records is a great accomplishment. and 6 of those belong to HCTG as well as the only playoff appearance and victory.

I am thankful Gill represents our school as head coach due to his love for Christ. However, if in the next few seasons at FBS we see a clear decline in competitiveness and the direction of the program sinking than yes let's find a new coach that we can be just as thankful for due to his love for Christ as well as his coaching ability. Until that time, GO FLAMES AND GO GILL!

If we go 6-6 that makes 14 straight seasons without a losing record!

I whole-heartedly agree that 6-5 doesn't cut it with what we have as far as talent goes. I just personally feel like we have lost sight of the fact that between Rocco and Gill we as a fan base have enjoyed 13 straight winning seasons and 8 conference championships and that is nothing to frown upon.

I agree with Jonathan Carone, on 6-5 in BSC.

Biggest fault I have with football, is after we went to Playoffs and beat JMU, we did not build upon that season, and take program to "next level". We have basically gone backwards.

It’s commendable and an accomplishment, but it’s also the largest sign of our underachieving that we did all that and only have one post season appearance to show from it.

I will say that the primary reason we have only one playoff appearance is because the BSC was not an Autobid conference for the entire reign of our team and we would never get an at large bid.

I'm not trying to justify 6-5. I said fire Gill two years ago. But it is a misleading phrase without context.

Jonathan Carone wrote:Part of why I was hoping we’d make a move last year is because this program needs the energy boost. Yes FBS and the new stadium is nice, but the overshadowed piece of that is we’ve not been good in FCS so there’s no reason the think we’d be good now. With a new coach who showed some personality and let the fans get to know him, there’d be ten times the excitement and intrigue there is now.

Gill is always going to be Gill. He's the protege of Tom Osborne who I think might have been a protege of Bud Wilkinson, both are not very expressive coaches but both great coaches and great Christian men. I've see Gill at practice a couple weeks ago and I must say he was fired up and the team was very attentive. It's not so much what we want in a coach but what the team needs in a coach. Gill is the right person for this job at this time.

Yes. I'm a downer because I believe given our resources and commitment towards football, we should finish better than 6-5 against schedules rated an average of 177. Meanwhile, Charleston Southern - a school we make fun of for their lack of resources and non-commitment to football went an average of 7-4 against a scheduled rated an average of 166 over that same time and had a trip to the playoffs. Kennesaw State - a program that literally has only been around three years - has averaged a record of 8-3 against the 196th rated schedule and has gone to the playoffs.

If pointing out facts and having a higher standard than underachieving mediocrity makes me a downer then I'll wear that badge proudly.

After thinking more. Gill has put up probably 3 of our 5 best wins as a program. He has also put up 3 or 4 of our worst losses. If that trend were to continue this could be a strange year. Im still going 4 and 8 with 2 fcs wins and 2 from new mexico nmsu odu or umass.

The pregame meal for Flames Club members has a good sounding menu this week. BBQ chicken, beef brisket, Mac and cheese, and green beans with two desert choices. And it's in the air conditioned IPF with the fans fest. 7 bucks a really good deal compared to what I would spend on concessions. I can arrive early to the game to make sure I am through security and will have time to enjoy my meal before making my way to the front row of the upper deck to see Liberty play FBS football.
