Kuddos to DeMorat. The Advance article states that DeMorat was the first Liberty golfer to qualify for a national championship. That statment needs to be qualified. Robert Karlsson, a Liberty grad, qualified for the US Open as a pro 10 times (had to withdraw in 2009 due to injury). Top finish was 4th in 2008. He also qualified for The Open 17 times with a top finish of 7th in 2008.

Wrong Robert Karlsson. Ours graduated from LU around 2012. Not sure where he is now but he was playing in the Canadian tour for a while.

Trouble on 14. Missed the fairway for first time, and had hard time getting back on. Double bogey. Now +4, which still isn't bad today if he can regroup and at least hold the rest of the way.

Birdies on 15 and 16. Finishes +2. Very impressive given that only about 10 players right now are under par (leader is -2). Course is playing like par would be about +5. His round was a good one, especially considering it's his first tour event and it's the US Open. Excellent!

Looking through the field for ¨household names¨, there are way more below Mickey than above him. What you really want in his position is to make the cut, and from the looks of it, that is going to happen, barring a major collapse tomorrow.

Midway through round two. Still playing well, even for the day. Plus 2 overall. Tied for eighth.

Will be interesting to see what he does this weekend. Pretty amazing so far, considering it's his PGA debut and on such a huge stage. If it wasn't for the unfortunate two-shot penalty on Thursday and the late slip yesterday with the closing bogeys, he would be sitting even and tied for second. What a story that would have been this weekend. As is, it's still very impressive. Hope he keeps it up for two more rounds.

The wheels came off on the back 9 yesterday, but he finished today's round +3. The entire experience should be a boon for him. Hopefully we'll see more of him someday on the tour.
