Considering the level of competition and the number of wins we earned, this is likely the best showing LU has ever had at a tournament (and that includes going to nationals twice and finishing 20th and 14th in the country in 2014 & 2015). We've beaten Ivy Leagues before (UPenn a few times), but this was LU's first win over Princeton, which was likely our best win in the history of the program.

Way to go! I appreciate the context.

To piggyback on this, how many teams/schools are at a competition? Who had the most wins and what was their total? I have no real idea how Quiz Bowl works, so some context could be helpful. Thanks and congrats!

Adam, there were 24 teams at the tournament, and I believe UPenn won the tournament with an undefeated record. We played 5 prelim rounds before lunch, and then 6 playoff rounds after lunch with 3 separate playoff brackets.

Thanks! So, how many wins would that give Penn? Jm

I think UPenn was 11-0, but many of these top-tier teams play graduate students. LU's varsity team is 3 seniors and a junior, and all but one are Honors Program students, including 2 National Merit Finalists on a full academic ride.

I am a bit late to the dance floor but I must chime in that this is impressive. Do they stream events like this? I like to make or local HS televised versions my Jeopardy ... thinking this might be a bit more fun.

Thanks for asking. The Big South used to stream their Quiz Bowl tournament, but they haven't done it in a number of years. However, if you want to watch a half of LU's Quiz Bowl team playing Longwood a few years ago, here is a link to it (but we have much nicer polos now):

Three of these players took us to nationals two years in a row in 2014 & 2015, where we finished 20th and 14th in the country. The missing player on this team, Doug Stephens, graduated from LU in 2015 and is now at Harvard Law School.
