Nobody questions TG character. But his coaching skills are questionable. He's 38-25 since coming to Liberty. 20 of those wins have come against conference foes. Getting 20 wins in a conference that is one of the weakest in the country is nothing to get excited about. With Liberty's resources and facilities, we should be dominating the FCS. In six seasons prior to coming to Liberty, TG had 1 winning season. Since coming to Liberty in the 5 complete seasons he has had three 6-5 seasons. If one has the mindset that everyone gets a trophy that might be looked on as good. But in mho that is average at best. Some seem to suggest that we could never get a coach who is a winner and a man of character. So we need to settle for TG. I beg to differ. I think someone such as Dabo Sweeney is a winning coach and a man of character. There are others out there. They just have to be sought out. I'm sure not many people knew who Dabo was before he came to Clemson. The question is do we want to find that coach or are we willing to settle for average ?

I believe I laid it out clearly above. If not, I will say again, it depends on our status (independent or in a conference, which conference), players and will add schedule. Going forward, based on the games that we have scheduled, I would be ecstatic with a .680 record for the next several years. However, I don't really think that is realistic.
After a couple of years of transition, if things stay status quo, I would expect for our move to FBS to be considered successful if we have a winning season, no wtf games, and go to a bowl game 40-60% of the time. In addition, I would expect continuous improvement on and off the field. That will not necessarily translate directly to W and L's but should be readily recognizable to the knowledgeable fan and certainly to the athletic administration.

Since you want moving forward I would say 6-6 would keep the job. Anything at or under 3-9 the seat gets warm. As for the FCS anything under 8-4 should get them in warm water. 8-4 with no progess for 4+ years I would say move on.

When we move to FBS, we need to go at least 7-5 or better most years,. A 6-6 record every so often will be ok. 6-6 will just about mean a bowl game, if number of bowls stay the same as they are now. In recent year or 2, not enough teams have had 6-6 or better to fill bowls, thus some 5-7 teams have gone bowling.

So all there records I'm seeing look to be the same or worse than what Gill has

You did say going forward. Against FCS talent it's an entirely different metric. Anything below 8-3 should be hot with our facilities in the Big South.

We aren't FBS yet. If he was doing this against the 2019 schedule no one would suggest Gill needs to go. There is a huge difference between the teams he has been playing since getting to LU. Like I said 8-4 in the FCS is VERY lenient. Realistically this year he should have gone at least 9-2. I would be okay with going 6-6 for the first 5 years or so at the FBS level.

IMHO, over the last five years with our schedule and facilities we should have been at winning at .800 or better. Maybe a little lower five years ago, higher the past couple years. 9-2 should have been the norm.

In the six years here, Danny Rocco had a 47-20 record. As of right now, entering his 6th year, TG has a 38-26 record. If we win out TG still will have less wins. My question is, did we really upgrade any with TG hire? I'm not talking about character or likability, but results on the field.

As I said before, this would be the first "Big 3" hire for IM since becoming AS so I would certainly be watching closely the kind of candidates he brings in because that gives more an idea of his philosophy going forward

If you keep walking your earlier statement back you'll have nowhere to go

Once again, my earlier statement DID NOT ORIGINATE WITH ME.

If I had been the author, I would have attached a name.

What the individual said did "make sense". But we will have to wait and see what happens. I would not call it an endorsement.

Sgt Snowflake you have backpedaled so far from you original statement it makes me smile. Now we are at the "makes sense" stage. Lots of things "make sense" but don't get thrown out for public consumption like that. If you didn't endorse it you would have dropped the name on us

We have. Several times. Your intent was quite clear. You've been backing off it ever since. Admit it. Embrace it. Own it. There will be more opportunities

Unless the powers that be have decide Gill is gonna be our guy from here on out why not cut the cord at the end of this season. We are gonna have a tough row to hoe the next couple of years any way as the competition gets tougher. Why not go ahead and bring in"who" they think can lead us (if they feel Gill can't) and take our lumps which we are gonna take while we get a new system in place for the future. why waste 4-5 years when we could cut it to maybe 2-3. IM "should" be able to tell what Gills ceiling is by now based on things the average fan would never be privy too.

Sigmo, agree 100%. Gill is definitely not the guy to take us forward. Maybe if we had 8 months between every game, he could come up with a good game plan. This might have been the worst effort I have ever seen by a LU team. Embarrassing.

I don't care if it is a big name or not, as long as it doesn't end up with the last name Gill. The lights are on, but no oNE is home.

Finding and paying a great coach will cost a lot less than the stadium expansion and will bring greater benefits and exposure. We have seen enough in 6 years to recognize we are not learning from our mistakes or getting better at in game adjustments. Time to move on.
