Coach Rocco is an anamoly (and I'm grateful for him). You have a highly-competent assistant coach at a mighty fine program, quite nearby to our campus. And it's not like the idea of him coming to Liberty was ridiculous, because of ties that his family had to the school. We don't have someone like that for basketball, unfortunately.

Barber didn't hire Rocco, remember that.

Maybe there is, if we look long enough or go far enough back. With LU's 100,000 alumni (give or take a few), there's bound to be a second cousin or a nephew out there somewhere who is an assistant coach at a mid-major university who would want to be the head coach at LU.

Alford? Sleezy? You must be talking about the hair!! That is what made him FAMOUS in the hoosier state, more so than his jump shot and All AMerican Shooting Video. (I still have one or two you can have!!)
I have become more and more intrigued by the Mark Price post. as I slept on it. IT would make sense. He doesn't really need the money, he will have a nice platform for whatever he wants to do, he is high profile, he can bring interest to the program. Heck, if RD does go, put me on Falwell 1 and I will fly down there and talk him into the job!!
Ah we can dream. TRIVIA: Who was his back court mate at Tech? (And projected to have a better NBA career?)

Haize I don't think that it is the same Marc Price that played for the Cavs and is a Christian and has a brother named Brent is it? He graduated from Georgia Tech and played for Bobby Cremins. I didn't see that in this guy's bio. Am I missing something?

Exactly...I wasn't gonna click on the link either and in fact I didn't for a while but then I thought about Marc Price spelling his name with a C (at least I thought) and that was a bit of a sign. It is like when George Costanza was driving Jon Voit's car but it was JOHN VOIT's car with an H in the middle

i was waiting for someone to actually realize that it is not the mark price everyone thought it was. let's put this one to bed. certainly not someone we would have interest in.
Furman head coach Jeff Jackson announced the hiring of Mark Price as assistant men's basketball coach in May of 2006.

Price spent the last five years as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. His primary responsibilities at UAH included coordinating recruiting and the development of the perimeter players. Since joining the program in the summer of 2001, He helped guide the Chargers to the 2002-03 Gulf South Conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2003 and 2005.

"I am real excited to add Coach Price to our staff," said Jackson at the time of the hiring. "Mark is a very bright coach and diligent worker who has an excellent understanding of what it takes to be successful at an institution like Furman, after having graduated from Samford University."

Price joined the UAH staff after helping Faulkner University earn a 34-5 record and the NAIA Division I National Title during the 2000-2001 season. At Faulkner, his responsibilities included recruiting, on-the-floor coaching, scouting opponents, student-athlete academic development and assisting with summer basketball camps.

Prior to his stint at Faulkner, Price spent two seasons as an assistant at the University of Mobile where he helped the Rams capture five victories in the NAIA National tournament. He was also responsible for signing top high school recruits for the Rams, including Hammond, La., product Tramaine Perry, who is now the school's all-time leading scorer with over 2,200 points.

During the summer of 2002, Price got his first head coaching experience leading Athletes in Action on their South American College Basketball tour. Price's AIA squad finished the 10-game schedule with a 7-3 record.

Price is a native of Brandenburg, Ky., where he was an outstanding prep athlete at Meade County High School. Before coaching at Mobile, Price was a student assistant coach at Samford University under head coaches John Brady and Jimmy Tillette. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Samford in 1998.

I believe that is the leading rumor.
Is there a snowball's chance in...South Florida that this could ever happen?
I know Pete can coach & recruit, but what's his faith background? Is he even a Protestant?

Word on the street is that he recently "found the light" as it were. And he still lives in Central VA.

The word on the street (University blvd) is wrong, "Pete" as we have so affectionately referred to him is not interested in the job. He talked with Falwell last year and decided it was not the right fit for him. This is from his daughters boyfriends sister....practically written in stone. Yes he has attended a game or two, but he traveled the country last year attending games, some as an announcer, but most as a fan. He spent a few weeks in Wisconsin as well with Bo Ryan. But all this to say, he has given LU no special attention.

This speculation reminds me of the time when, before we hired Dunton the second time, the word of the street (University Blvd) was that there were three candidates for the job -- Mark Price, A.C. Green and David Robinson.

Obviously, none of those materialized.

Of course he wasn't interested. Dunton was still in relatively good standing. Things change. Nick Saban...need I say more.

Maybe now--5 years later--one of those candidates has gained enough experience to actually be qualifed for our job opening. Does anybody know what those big 3 are doing now--are they coaching somewhere?

Mark Price -- Recently fired/resigned as inaugural head coach of Australia's NBL South Dragons w/ 0-5 record. I haven't found any other record of him as a coach at any level.
AC Green -- Currently runs the AC Green Youth Foundation, promoting abstinence among young people. He is an author, speaker and businessman but has never coached at any level.
David Robinson -- Currently serves as "minister at large" for Oak Hills Church under Max Lucado. Also, no coaching record.

The most recent rumor I've heard on the "street" is that Jim Henson will rise from the dead to coach the team. He will coach every game with his top assistant, Bert, on one hand and his director of operations, Ernie, on the other. Zombie Jim Henson plans to finally defeat the Great Winthrop Menace by slowly shuffling up to Gregg Marshall and eating his brain. Zombie Jim will then promptly leave to coach at the College of Charleston.

That rumor seems a bit unreliable though.
