Umm...do you remember one of my bold predictions before the season started?

http://www.aseaofred.com/4-bold-predict ... 16-season/
3. STEPHON MASHA WILL BE NAMED THE BIG SOUTH’S OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR.
The offense will be wide open and up-tempo as new offensive coordinator Joe Dailey hopes to run 85 plays a game. With the ball in his hands on every snap, Masha should be able to put up some gaudy numbers.

I too have no patience for terrible QB play. The issue is both have been not good. I get the reasoning behind this statement though.

While a large part of the blame for this not happening is certainly on Masha, the fact is the up-tempo offense has yet to be seen, and IMHO that is mostly on Daley and the rest of the offensive staff The plays are not being chosen and communicated fast enough and we aren't getting lined up with the speed and urgency necessary to put pressure on the opposing defense Combine that with the fact that absolutely nothing was done to establish the QB as a running threat, and, to continue your analogy, we were dead in the water

The play calling has been very vanilla and completely unorganized. The O-line has also not showed a level of play to make anything happen in terms of moving the ball.

I thought there was only one book of Proverbs. I need to get one of them new Bibles ! It must have been updated.
Well, as it says in 3 Philemon "Today is a new day for you to try and be right!' Study

Now that Calvert is now starting, I would like to see hIm under center at least 1st & second down. I don't think option is his cup of tea and our backs would be better served running down hill to the hole.

With the issues the O Line has being in the shotgun not only fits his name, but gives him a little more time to find receivers

He would do well with stretch handoffs I think as opposed to shotgun zone reads

Personally I do not like QBs under center, especially with an offensive line that has trouble protecting QB. By the time he drops back, the rush is upon him.

We agree there. But Coach Beej doesn't. He may prefer the Power I set

You're way off here... way wrong. Everyone knows the only successful QBs these days don't go under center.

Was Johnny Unitas under center?
Dan Marino?
Joe Namath?
Jeff George?

I'm glad Calvert is starting. I believe he is the better quarterback. He is more accurate and sees the field better.

It is sad that we weren't able to take advantage of Masha's running abilities. In order for him to be successful...we would have to run the option a lot. It was working against SMU, we were getting 5-8 yards a play on it...but we preferred runs up the middle for 1 yard.

If we're not going to run option on 50 percent of the plays...then we have to go with Calvert.

Regardless of who your inspiration for who your inspiration is for running an uptempo offense, It has to begin with the running game...we have a combined 158 carries, 128 of which come from the running backs...27 combined between Masha and Calvert with Calvert accounting for -55 net yards. If we want to be an uptempo fast paced offense, we need to increase the number of carries for the QBs as well as the RBs...make the defense question who has the ball on any given play.....

No it doesn't. Up tempo offenses run little bubble screen and dink and dunk passes all day long. Historically they pass a lot more than run. In fact they use the run to keep defenses honest in defending the pass

There's no one way to do an up tempo offense. Some teams run to set up the home run pass. Others pass it 60 times a game. Both can be successful. You just have to commit to an identity. Right now (and for most of Gill's tenure) we don't have an offensive identity.

False - WVU up-tempo under d-rod was run first then set up the bubble screens and long passes. D-rod was the inventor of spread up tempo offense. Cmon man....

I do not know D Rod. If you are talking about the Arizona football coach, he makes a lot of claims that turn out not to be true.
Jon is right. There is no 1 way to run an uptempo offense
