Why would UH and UC be bad for us? If two schools are plucked from the AAC, that's good for us because they could choose to replace both and the domino effect would be to our benefit.

With Austin behind them, it would be a shock if they weren't the first one in the door ... if they ever do prop open the door. Speculation is that announcement will come next month at the league meetings.

UH's academic credentials have improved DRAMATICALLY in the past decade thanks in large part to hueg money flowing in from high oil prices. That has obviously come crashing down around them. But not before they spent the cash like it was going out of style.

Herman is proving to be a special coach and is already doing a nice job of slamming the door shut on all outside schools not named UT, A&M or LSU. But UH continues to be primarily a commuter school and never has had a very strong fanbase even among its alumni.

The MWC angle could make things very interesting if they do in fact poach C-USA. The only speculation I had heard over the past year was them looking at UTEP. But creating basically a Texas division could really open up some drama. I'm not sure if most of the Texan schools feel the cash required to shift from C-USA is worth the hassle. But you never know.

Montana is not getting a MWC invitation for a number of reasons ... neither will NMSU. NDSU has a better shot but has bad TV market baggage. Wyoming has had some discussion of possibly sliding back to Big Sky to save costs. The oil economy has hit that state hard. But I don't see that happening either.

The Texas bunch moving together is not likely but has a much higher chance of occurring than the other speculation. I could see the three schools along the I-35 corridor liking the idea of being together in a better league than C-USA/Belt.

Just how much influence should West Virginia have in the Big 12 expansion? Since they were a late comer to the party, and should be delighted to even be in the group, why should there be any consideration of a travel partner for them? To me they bring nothing and letting them in was a mistake. Some tv footprint they have.
