Well, the mighty humpers will get to tournament. There is nothing in buies creek but Campbell and a pretty nice golf course. Looks like I will be going to the tournament this year since Campbell is only 45 minutes from me. And who knows maybe McKay's kids will shock a few of you and win a game or two in the tourney.

One of our most recent appearances in the Myrtle Beach area involved a 40 point loss and a coach who quit before the game ended. I think it's good that the tournament is moving elsewhere.

Not a fan of the choice personally...but you can't be considered if you don't bid. The pep band will have quite a trek ahead of them going to two different sites for the men's and women's tournaments (although that is a very VERY minor piece to the puzzle)

Is there still talk of downsizing? Admirable goal...have as nice of a facility as Campbell. Winthrop's is just too big.

If I didn´t know how changable these things are, I would be a bit concerned about plans to downsize that much as well. I feel confident that with McKay running the show the interest in the program and the attendance will rebound to a point where plans will be reevaluated.

Bigger is not nicer. The new facilities at Coastal and UNCA (and possibly Campbell as well) may not have the capacity of the Vines, but they are nicer aesthetically and more fan friendly. Every time we have heard about plans for major renovation of the Vines, they have been scrapped. I´m no archetect, but I have a feeling the building simply has too many issues which work against it being upgraded to what we want. I like the idea of a new facility, with a range of potential sizes incorporated into the advance planning and designed to be expanded even after it is built.

Not "downsizing" anything for MBB. It's to give WBB and Volleyball a more competitive atmosphere. Capacity would be from what I have heard is @ 4500 - similar to the new Layhaye but a tad larger.

The BSC is lacking in all sports when it comes to selecting venues for conference tournaments.
The word Venue refers to a building/facility, and I am going to disagree with you on that. The building is fine. It´s a nice, new facility, and if you look at the attendance figures for past BSC tournaments you won´t see many crowds over 3000. As far as everything else that goes with hosting a tournament is concerned, I agree that Buies Creek is lacking.

When I use the term "venue", I include the building/field, city, traffic, parking, hotels, eating places, etc.

But regardless of the legal definition of venue, the Big South is weak when it comes to selected where conference tournaments will be.

This coming from someone who is on record as saying that EVERY BSC tournament should be held at Liberty. Based on that, it wouldn´t matter where else they held it, it would be a bad choice to you. The fact is in the current environment, with interest in LU´s BB program low and other teams who don´t generally travel well, holding the basketball tournament in a building as big as the Vines would be an awful choice. The city of Lynchburg and all that goes with it is fine for hosting, but the facility itself is just not a good fit. It worked back in the 90´s and it might again in a few years, but right now...... no.
