I'm actually glad. I think that it is VERY bad scheduling to play two 1a teams each year.

Why? Our goal is to move to FBS. If we want to be with the "big boys," we have to put on our big boy pants sometime.

If it's one money game and one winnable FBS game, it's a great way to schedule. North Texas was winnable just like GaSt, App, ODU, Kent St, Ball St, and Toledo.

Precisely. My guess is JB went that route with the playoffs in mind because our SoS so often left us with zero margin for error come selection weekend.

Yeah, an FBS win is always going to be better in the eyes of the selection committee than a win over a weak FCS opponent.

Looks as if a "weak schedule" is a thing of the past. I don't think anyone can use the terms, LU and Cupcakes in the same sentence.

There is one FBS Conference that is trying to ban its members from playing FCS schools. I believe it's the Big 10. I can see why they're doing it. The Big 10 has a lot of cupcakes within the conference.

I would say replacing North Texas with SMU as an away game is an upgrade for us. SMU is a better established program regardless of their record this year. They are also in a better conference too. I am excited for our Flames to roll into the little pony express and light em up. Should be a blast.

Turner Gill has made it a point of emphasis for Liberty to have a strong recruiting presence in Texas, especially when it comes to finding those diamonds in the rough who can be major contributors to the program.

One of the major ways to showcase the program to recruits is playing a regular-season game in their backyards. The problem for Liberty? The Flames haven’t played a game in Texas since playing Southwest Texas State in 1993.

If we're still here, this is about 5 minutes from my apartment driving, or if we walked the Katy Trail (a dangerous proposition these days), it wouldn't be an unreasonable walk to University Park.

I tend to agree with you. I think we have been shooting our self in the foot. It is not like we are hurting for money. Part of it is how our schedule is set up as well. This year we had WVU then Montana followed by 4 road games. Gills first year he had a brutal first 4 games to open with. I think we are setting ourselves up for failure. CCU hasn't played the toughest schedule and they are going FBS, are always ranked high, and make the playoffs.

JMU got us this year and didn't even play us .... they sent us on the road for 4 weeks. Kill our momentum.

Now that we're playing tougher schedules, people are saying it's too hard.

Something we forget when our schedule has gone from weak sauce to one of the toughest in FCS is that we are better prepared for the playoffs against tougher teams. Not to mention our exposure in the landscape of College Football grows as does our potential to sign better recruits. These things all play to our advantage as a football program. This season alone we may see the benefit of playing a tough non-conference schedule as it could be the separation we need to get an at-large spot in the playoffs. However, I do know that tougher schedules present the opportunity of shooting ourselves in the foot where we don't make the playoffs. I still think from a program standpoint its better to schedule up then down. So bring on those now 3 promised victories and playoff appearance by the great Josh Woodrum *SARCASM inserted*
