Hank Aaron and Willie Mays were class acts.

The umpire should have ejected Jose Bautista for throwing the bat. I have seen players ejected for less.

I hope for more standing at the plate and more kent murphy batflips.

Unspoken rules exist in every sport.

The pitchers/relievers shouldn't do all of the crap that they do either.
sells tickets and makes moments. kirk gibson pumping his fist and "showing up the pitcher" he should of been ejected.

get out of here.

jose bautista is the last guy to try and throw inside and plunk. when you try he'll yack those inside pitches out of the park. everyone knows this. he pimps and batflips all the time. he only cracked the top 10 hbp once in 10 years. Nobody throws at him because he's a beast who'll make you pay.

joey bats doesnt' care that he'll get hit whenever because that just puts him on base. thats what makes the whole thing even more ridiculous.

Lets just make every sport like tennis...no music, quiet while the ball is in play, and polite clapping after every point. Or if that's too much, we could make every spot like golf...

ballcoach15 wrote:In most all pro sports today, players have become too emotional when making plays. I am talking about football, basketball and baseball mainly.
Back in the day, players did not act stupid, silly or taunt the opponent like they do today. Why this is, I do not know. A touchdown is still 6 points, when runner crosses plate, it's one run. When player makes a FG in basketball it's still 2 or 3 points. Like the Coach said, when you reach end zone, act as if you've been there before.
basketball may be the worst sport of all for taunting and being a jerk. Players dunk the ball or hit a 3 pointer, they often become complete jerks by yelling at opponent. I wish Refs would start calling technical fouls for this type behavior.
As for baseball, I don't ever recall Cal Ripken, Jr. being a jerk when hitting a home run.

The Toronto Blue Jays are probably the worst team in baseball when it comes to behavior on the field.
this back in the day stuff is all so full of crap. I've got nba classics, the mlb network, and the nfl channel. we get to see the classics all the time. guys doing the same crap. except most of the time everyone beat the actual hell out of each other. Thank goodness you are the type of fan disappearing from baseball.

I chortle audibly. "Back when there weren't any of these colored fellas, sports were more sophisticated!"
I posted it as a joke but it's actually true. 87% of all bench clearing incidents in the past five years was started by someone who wasn't an American.

Baseball has a different culture around the world, and it's a lot more fun than whatever we have here.

I had you pegged for a South Sider with your Wrigleyville hate! Was it not cool though that they enshrined the home run shot where it landed?

You are really comparing Gibson's celebration to Bautista?

Bautista knew what he did was over the top and he knows that he's going to get drilled. That's why he made a half-hearted effort to walk it back immediately after the game before showing his true intentions in other interviews.

VAGolf wrote:He was fineeeee. He took one second to flip a bat....because he is human. Peyton Manning took an entire week to plan a dance for reaching a milestone...no one said anything about it but when a baseball player, who has worked his entire life, at the same franchise, hits the biggest HR of his career and takes one second to react like a human...people go nuts.
I was against what Manning did. Football and basketball are far more unsportsmanlike than baseball. Also, the ways that players police themselves in those sports are far different than baseball. There are very few effective ways for baseball players to enforce the game's internal code.

I'm against unsportsmanlike behavior whenever it happens. You relish that behavior and only pay attention when retaliation and violence are guaranteed.
VAGolf wrote:Oh, by the way, how come neither you nor ballcoach have an issue with managers getting into fights with umps? Do you know how often, even little league umpires, have to deal with micro-managing umpire? If both of you truly had any "respect" for the game, you would be more concerned with that than a simple bat flip.
Off topic.
VAGolf wrote:And lastly, how about the pitcher just doesn't throw an inside fastball with the game tied, in the playoffs, on the road at a place that hasn't had a ton of success, to the one guy who has been with the franchise for forever? If anything, this is on the idiotic pitcher who essentially was begging for an emotional reaction.
Apparently you haven't played any sports. The Rangers players are working just as hard as the Blue Jays. Dyson wasn't trying to give up a 3 run home run.

Overseas baseball is definitely less fun to watch than MLB.

Yeah but it was huge!
As for Bartman, he got a raw deal. It was some other guy who got the ball. Clear as day on the reply. But he fit the look
I think they are doing a good job with Wrigley. I suspect it will be slowly gutted and upgraded bit by bthe t over the next few years

I hope he hits a HR against the Rangers next year and after he touches home he goes and grabs a second bat and flips both of them just like that.

The more I watch the replay, the more I can not understand why the Umpire did not eject him for throwing the bat.

But all in all, the Blue Jays have the worst sportsmanship of any MLB team and maybe in all sports, at any level. They simply have a bunch of hot heads and jerks. The Umpires need to start ejecting more of the Blue Jays.
