JoeyBats has been Pimping home runs for a long time. He gets pitched at by the Orioles on the reg.

I dont like him but thats because hes playing for the Blue Jays. If Machado or Adam Jones were bat flipping, I wouldnt have a problem.

Any other anger directed at any particular players is just silly.
Not just giving up a homerun. If they had lost on that home run but Bautista acted in a sportsmanlike manner, there would be no retaliation against him. But since he did, there will be.

I'm pretty sure bluejacket has moved into the ballcoach realm. If you don't want them to celebrate, don't let them hit bombs in deciding games. Also, relievers celebrate all the time.

And you somehow think that's cool?

I hope for more standing at the plate and more kent murphy batflips.

Unspoken rules exist in every sport.

The pitchers/relievers shouldn't do all of the crap that they do either.

And this is coming from a Red Sox fan. Ramirez and Ortiz were some of the worst offenders.

Like I said before, the pitchers need to chill too.

First at bat when the jays play the rangers next year he gets plunked. And I can't wait to see it. even more so I can't wait to see the reaction. Joey Bats knows exactly what he did and he knows exactly what will happen next time he steps into the batters box against the Rangers. and I'm sure he's perfectly ok with that.

He will get plunked and I'm totally okay with it.

I'm even more okay with the back flip. I wish there was more celebrating/having fun in baseball. It'd make things a lot more entertaining to watch.

I just don't get being so against the bat flip but all for him getting hit. Makes zero sense to me.

If MLB would actually enforce the rules, baseball would become one of the most entertaining sports. All of the mechanisms for fixing baseball are already in place. They just have to do it.

What people want is "menace." It doesn't appear very often in modern baseball. But when it does, people pay attention. I'm not calling for Juan Marichal-Johnny Roseboro incidents or excessive bean ball games. But it wouldn't hurt to have strong rivalries and fierce dislike/hatred between players and teams.

I agree with Jon...if I hit a home run like that, in that spot, I probably chuck the bat too...actually I probably drop the bat, have a freak out rivaled only by the one the new Miss America has, and walk to first because Im too emotionally caught up in the moment to even jog straight.

I didn't care about the post-season until that bat flip. Now, I'll be watching until the World Series has concluded. Baseball needs more of these moments. If the pitcher didn't want Jose to do the bat flip, he shouldn't have pitched an inside fastball, with the game tied at 3, to a player that has been with the franchise for forever and only has had mediocre success. Baseball purists need to get over themselves, "respect for the game" cliches will kill your sport.

Agreed. But I haven't heard anyone say: "Don't celebrate." I have heard: "Think of the children." Which is a stupid argument. Most are simply saying: "Respect the game and your opponent." Sportsmanship is lacking in all professional sports, with some worse than others.

The best part of this is that Bautista knows that he crossed the line. The people who hate the "purists" are sticking up for someone who knows what he did and knows what is coming. Bautista has no problem with getting beaned, but they do.

Players have found ways to be respectful and sportsmanlike in far bigger moments. Bautista was neither.

If the Blue Jays had lost the game, everyone would rightly be on Bautista for being a moron. Why does he get absolved from being a moron simply because his team ended up winning?

Bautista reacted in an emotional moment. He even said he didn't remember doing anything he did.

This is a ball game. When we take the fun out of games, we lose the point of playing.

Exactly. Now if we could just get some in-your-face stuff going on in golf... 8)

In most all pro sports today, players have become too emotional when making plays. I am talking about football, basketball and baseball mainly.
Back in the day, players did not act stupid, silly or taunt the opponent like they do today. Why this is, I do not know. A touchdown is still 6 points, when runner crosses plate, it's one run. When player makes a FG in basketball it's still 2 or 3 points. Like the Coach said, when you reach end zone, act as if you've been there before.
basketball may be the worst sport of all for taunting and being a jerk. Players dunk the ball or hit a 3 pointer, they often become complete jerks by yelling at opponent. I wish Refs would start calling technical fouls for this type behavior.
As for baseball, I don't ever recall Cal Ripken, Jr. being a jerk when hitting a home run.

The Toronto Blue Jays are probably the worst team in baseball when it comes to behavior on the field.

He was fineeeee. He took one second to flip a bat....because he is human. Peyton Manning took an entire week to plan a dance for reaching a milestone...no one said anything about it but when a baseball player, who has worked his entire life, at the same franchise, hits the biggest HR of his career and takes one second to react like a human...people go nuts.

Oh, by the way, how come neither you nor ballcoach have an issue with managers getting into fights with umps? Do you know how often, even little league umpires, have to deal with micro-managing umpire? If both of you truly had any "respect" for the game, you would be more concerned with that than a simple bat flip.

And lastly, how about the pitcher just doesn't throw an inside fastball with the game tied, in the playoffs, on the road at a place that hasn't had a ton of success, to the one guy who has been with the franchise for forever? If anything, this is on the idiotic pitcher who essentially was begging for an emotional reaction.

Good Lord, you baseball purists take the best parts about your game and then ruin them.
