Christ School rising senior John Fulkerson, left, tied a single-season school record for blocks (93) last season.

Christ School rising senior John Fulkerson likes a good block as much as anybody.

But he’s accepting a lot of phone calls lately from Division I college basketball coaches.

Fulkerson has no less than 15 scholarship offers to choose from as the 6-foot-8, 195-pound forward from Kingsport, Tenn., prepares for one last season with the Greenies.

It appears that at this moment Fulkerson is the only open offer we have for the 2016 class. IMHO that is a brilliant strategy to land a kid with offers from major programs. If Ritchie can get in this kids living room he can show him all the other players at his position schools like UTK, GA and Clemson have offered, then look him in the eye and say ¨We have one scholarship left and one offer. Come to Lynchburg for a visit and see what it is we have to offer you¨. If we can get him on campus, we have a good shot IMHO.

I haven't see a tall white kid from a Christian school with that many big time offers since CARTER MCMASTERS! And Ritchie signed him. :pray

Pretty valid comparison actually, although they are very different players. Carter didn´t have as many total offers as John has, but he actually had more from high major schools, including 2 they have in common, UTK and Clemson.

Fulkerson´s total number is so high because he got a ton of mid-major offers before the big guys took note of him this summer. IMHO Carter´s career would have been much different if Ritchie had stayed at LU. He and Layer butted heads about his role. DL wanted to turn him into a post player while Carter saw himself as a spot up 3 point shooter in the mode of Steve Novak. Too bad they couldn´t meet in the middle. After a couple of years of that he just seemed to lose interest in basketball.

We´ve had a lot of players commit earlier than usual this summer, which is great, and they seem to all be very hard commits, so I doubt we will run into the ¨verbal regret syndrom¨ which sometimes happens with kids who announce a decision early. We may be waiting a while for Fulkerson. He has indicated he will probably decide in November, which sounds like he does plan on signing in the early period, but doesn´t want to rush things. Recent history has shown though, that if Ritchie can get him to the mountain that could change.

How about November 19th ? Williams Stadium on a Thursday Night , likely for the BigSouth Championship football game. If he does make the trip, someone alert the video board operator , and Jerry's Jokers. It would be awesome to let the crowd chant their desire for John to be a flame.

That's a LUnatics move through and through. Would love if the Jokers pulled that off.

And then one of them can befriend John on facebook and message him every day for months before he steps foot on campus.

Knoxville is next on the schedule for Fulkerson this coming weekend. If Ritchie can land this kid after he has been to UTK and been pitched by Barnes ......................................... :jawdropper :bowdown.

Guys on the VolsNation board talking like Fulkerson to UTK is a done deal, and they are OK with Barnes signing him ........................... as the 5th player in a 5 man class. This is the type of thing that gives a school like Liberty a shot, if a slim one. Our coaches can honestly tell him he is our top recruit and a player we expect to make an immediate impact. The big schools may say it, but recruits are more informed and savvy these days and tend not to buy the BS. Getting him on campus will be the key. I really believe if we can get him to do a visit we have a chance.

Coach Barnes is a great closer on visits. He's also a believer. Then again, he's no longer recruiting in Austin but instead in Knoxville. So we have that working for us.

Which brings up the question of what does a Christian man of high character tell a kid who is on the low end of the totem pole in a recruiting class where everybody else has a bunch of stars after their name on Rivals, Scout, etc.? If you are Donnie Tyndall it isn´t a problem (I guess I should say it wasn´t a problem). You tell them what they want to hear. If you are Rick Barnes? Probably the best he can do is standard coachspeak about how PT is earned in practice and everybody has a shot. Technically true, but not really being transparent.

As far as the location is concerned Sly, this is one time Knoxville probably beats Austin. John goes to Christ School in NC, but he is a boarding student there. His home is Kingsport, TN, just an hour and a half from Knoxville by I-81. By him boarding for 2 years as a HS student several hours away in NC, at least we know he isn´t still connected to the umbilicle cord.

Looking at his Twitter is pretty much all Tennessee stuff in the last month. I don't think we have much of a shot here unfortunately. Agreed on the visit though oldflame.

The other official visit for Fulkerson will be Georgia in mid October. He said he is planning to make a decision in early November.

After listening to him, I would say it is very unlikely he is coming to Liberty unless something changes.

Thanks. Obviously we have no chance without a visit. Not looking great to land him right now, but although we haven´t made the offers, I believe there are some other pretty good options for that schollie.

Nope. Alabama or Florida if not Tennessee. Maybe Auburn and Georgia. Kentucky in basketball.

If it's not the SEC, it doesn't exist here.

There was a time when ETSU was on a roll in basketball and had a large and rabid fan base. They would have been closer to 40% in that part of the state. Now, not so much.

Fulkerson retweeting an announcement about a guy named Lucas Campbell, who was his AAU teammate, being given an invited walkon spot on the UTK basketball team.

He still has a visit to Georgia scheduled, but it´s looking more and more like he is going to be a Vol.

Fulkerson is taking his official visit to UGA this weekend. He has said he will announce his decision in early Nov. Frankly, I see no indication that we have ever really been in the mix, but there must be some reason we offered, since Ritchie really doesn´t just throw those around like a lot of coaches do. It looks like almost a lock for UTK right now, but I believe we have a shot at just about any Christian kid if we can get him on campus. Vol Nation is less than enthused with the class Barnes has lined up to date, and getting Fulkerson will not help in that regard.
