Why? :dontgetit
Ditto.

I get the want as fans to be competitive immediately. I think we would see a major difference after the first two years. Regardless, an invite to the AAC is not going to happen. I do know that several of the schools in that conference though have an interest in our online programs... They also have proven that they are open to private, religiously affiliated universities. And our AD happens to have history with one of the other member institutions. So a move to the AAC several years after joining the I-A ranks could be possible.

I do not think the AAC would be a good move for us. When we do make a move to an FBS conference, and I do believe we will, it needs to be to someplace where we can be competitive within a fairly short time frame, and I don't think our losing to Charleston Southern in football or basketball has much bearing on that long term. all that means is that they were better than us on that day. we could go out next year and beat them by 4 TDs, does that somehow mean we are #FBSready? absolutely not...it means, once again, that we were better than them on that particular day. The same thing with Longwood. Just because they beat us in those games, does not affect our overall competitiveness in another conference.

The climate is very hostile toward us right now, with our very obvious desire to make a move, and the financial wherewithal, as well as the infrastructure either in place or in the works, to do well when an invite comes. inI the meanwhile, we need to build on thesuccess we have had in football, baseball and women's basketbal, build new success in men's basketball (with patience mind you) and prepare ourselves for what will come as a result.
:dontgetit If we continually lose to Charleston Southern it most certainly has a bearing long term bearing on being #FBSready Chuck South are fine people, but if we are going to get where the stated goal is to get, we need to beat the Chuck Souths of the world 9 times out of 10

A bowl game created for FCS schools just because they are historically African-American?

If I'm reading this correctly, this could help Liberty in the future. Being a constant bubble team, Liberty will now have a shot at an additional at-large bid since this bowl game would eliminate an automatic bid, correct?

Correct. This is also really old news. It passed back in the winter, I think. The MEAC will no longer send its champion to the playoffs. Other MEAC teams will still be eligible for at-large playoff bids, though.

Hampton has always been rumored to be looking. Delaware State too. South Carolina State might be interested, but it has much larger problems to worry about right now.

LU's facilities are better than some big time schools. Baseball and softball are better than everyone's except less than 10 schools.

Basketball facilities are better than many FBS D1 schools.

Football facilities are above many schools, and can be improved on moments notice.

I recall when Maryland joined Big 10 and WVA joined Big 12, people said they could not complete in those conferences. But they have done well.

If LU joined ANY conference in the country, in 3 years or less, we would surprise, same as Maryland and West Virginia did. Join a big conference, recruiting improves over night.

About time someone said something. Hopefully Texas will do something to prevent the Big12 from becoming irrelevant.
With the other four conferences in the P5 essentially stable and done with realignment at this point... I don't think the Big 12 has anything to worry about in terms of becoming irrelevant. You look at the schools in the conference and they all have solid national reputations in at least one of the money sports. OU's president is right though in terms of the timing and their ability to be "choosy" about who they let in. I'm interested to see their strategy if and when this shoe does drop. I can't see them woo'ing away anyone from the BIG 10, PAC 12, SEC or ACC. I think a target in the AAC or the CUSA is the most likely to happen, and I think they might look to the East for perhaps both additions, since WVU is out there on the map all by itself. I could see Houston, ECU or Cinci as possibilities from the AAC.

I'm not sure the Big 12 would want another Texas school, although Houston and SMU would both jump at the chance. I could see Cinci, possibly Pitt from the ACC, or them looking to the west at maybe Colorado State or BYU.

I'm not holding my breath however...

I'll wait for the resident Texas expert, but I suspect that the Big 12 might be interested in getting ahold of the Houston market again before Texas A&M takes it all. Besides that, they are a pretty competitive program and in a city that is thriving (sorry to sound like a Sly Fox lackey). I don't think a move out further to the West would be a good move for the Big 12. I've seen a lot about CSU and BYU, but I just don't get how they could leave WVU hanging. I suppose I could see an ACC school like Ga Tech or Clemson jumping ship, but I think the ACC might be the stronger conference right now. I'd rank the P5 like this...

1) SEC
2) PAC 12
3) B1G
4) ACC
5) BIG 12

After that grant of rights agreement that they all signed, nobody is leaving the ACC for A LONG time. Any team that leaves the ACC for the Big 12 would have to give all of their TV money to the ACC for the better part of a decade(not 100% on the year it expires)

OU being OU. It wouldn't be much fun if Boren stayed quiet for any period of time.

Guys, nothing is changing anytime soon. If there were strong value add schools then they would be invited right now. There are none available. The only way anything moves is if the B1G or SEC move on expansion or lawyers find a hole in the ACC GOR. BYU< Colorado State, Cincinnati and ECU do not move the needle enough to matter.

And the Longhorns remain the dominant college school sports franchise in Houston with A&M close behind. UH & Rice aren't even on the local radar. It would take some legal maneuver to force the Big XII to accept either UH or SMU. Neither brings any value whatsoever to the league.

The big question is whether or not the very unpopular UT AD Steve Patterson survives in Austin. His position is highly precarious right now. If he were to get the boot, it could get interesting in who they bring in next. The obvious candidate is sitting up in Indy watching his son play QB.

Acutally I would say the Horns are probably the dominant franchise throughout the state except for Dallas, Fort Worth, Waco, El Paso, Lubbock and College Station.

Baylor followed by TCU. I actually haven't seen a lot of Longhorn gear around here. I'm as likely to see an LSU hat, UVA bumper sticker, Duke T-Shirt, etc... as I am anything related to UT-Austin in downtown Dallas.

SMU has a nice following at our church, but you'd expect that at a Methodist church in Dallas :P
