He didn't recruit anyone at UVA. he sits on TV and whispers in Tony's ear like anyone else could sit there and do. Time will tell be happy with 4th place finishes.
Scar hasn't been out in the world? So all the work he did this basketball season must've been an illusion???

Where do you think I work and live? I've been in Corporate America for 20 plus years, the last 4 as an executive. I don't live in Lynchburg. I just spent the past season covering CUSA and Atlantic 10. I hope I'm not included in the guys that haven't been out in the world. HMO on the other hand has never left campus :P
Who cares about the perception if he can win? What about the perception of Liberty hoops the past few years? Yeah I think I can live with this change. Also London Parantes, Gill, and others from the #2 team in the nation were recruits of McKay. The guys at UVA were overlooked HS players for the most part that Tony and Ritchie were able to develop. I think that's a positive. Bottom line is only time will tell. I don't think I have to be a McKay apologist from this point on. I will just let it play out. I just wanted to chime in with my 2 cents.

trolling it up good today, huh?
Not trolling if it's speaking the truth. Some folks on here acting like he committed some great sin by leaving a few years ago. It's a great hire by Liberty standards but some can't get over their childish butthurt to see that. When was the last time Liberty was as good as they were under McKay in his second season? Won 23 games that year, hadn't won 20+ since 1997 and have had just five 20+ win seasons in the history of the program. But by all means let's act like this was a terrible hire because he left after two years the first time around. Sure, it may not work out as no coaching hire is guaranteed to work out, but he won, and won big in just his second season, which is more than can be said about nearly every single coach Liberty has hired in the NCAA era.

At least SCAR (and some others, don't want to single out just SCAR) here can look at this rationally.

Totally agree.

Yep because the results Liberty put out the last few years wasn't silly

I agree that some people are jumping of the deep end here but they are human and aren't perfect man. Take it easy on them, they aren't Jesus Himself after all.

I don't expect perfection, but I was kind of expecting a little less stupid though.

lol at he doesn't recruit. Brodgon, Gill, Mitchell? he was a big part of UVA success.

say all of that over at the sabre and see what they tell you.

like many said. great coach. lets hope he's actually committed this time. more resources (compared to 07-09). new academic/performance center on the way. i see no way he should leave for something other than a BCS HC job.

This thread is funny to read! A lot of people mad at this hire. I was on Campus when Ritchie McKay use the God card in convocation, And then watched as most of you wrote on here that he had one of the best recruiting classes in Liberty history. Man how the tide turns when a person leaves a program. How can you not say this is a great hire, virginia has been great the last two year. They were they ACC season champs, and Tony Bennett won coach of the year. What more do some of you want, you always talk about how great the ACC is

The best point HMO made IMHO is that this is a riskier move for McKay than it is for Liberty. He had a sweet gig, and could have continued to ride the TB gravy train to even bigger things, and probably eventually get another HC offer from a high major program if that was what he wanted to do. Maybe even get the HC job at UVA if Bennett bolted for the big bucks. Instead he is stepping into a dumpster fire of a program that has lost over 80 games in 4 years playing in a weak conference. I know all about his history, but to be honest, I have more confidence that he will stick around if he has success than the younger coaches we looked at.

So far I'm impressed. Jeff really killed it. Ritchie is doing really well. I really appreciated the bit on DL. I think he expressed everyone's views on that very well.

McKay didn't recruit at UVA? LOL

247sports has him listed as the primary recruiter for Perrantes. Rivals says he was the primary recruiter or the primary recruiter along with Bennett for Brogdon, Joe Harris. That's 3 of the 5 best players UVA has had in the Bennett era.
