I'm agreeing with Comet. If it weren't Ritchie (or even Meyer), they would've leaked the name. In the past, they've said who we were announcing as the head coach in the press release about having a press conference. They're keeping this one tight so that they can have the first word.

If anyone destroyed our "program," it was DL not McKay. Complaining about "how" someone left is a total guy move and it's almost always done out of fear of someone finding out who you really are.
The reason people don't like it is because he played the God card to a bunch of Christians. We thought he was one of us and let our guard down and then he went a different direction.

He also played the God card when he left, but in fairness, I actually believe he was totally sincere in all of it.

Welp, Wyoming brought back larry shyatt after he left, and they got back into the tournament. Depaul just rehired Dave Lateo. Maybe this is a new trend.

It's easy to commit to honey forever when things are nice. But once honey asks you to pay for dinner, you start considering your options.

I have higher standards for pizza now though so it'd be a little more expensive.

And maybe on 12/1/2008, that was the truth. Things change, unforeseen opportunities arise. Maybe Liberty was still right for him when he left for UVA, but maybe UVA was just "more right."

Is that supposed to be an excuse for him? Cause i'm not seeing it.

Bingo! Regardless of whether he tuns out to be the man introduced at 1pm, he is one of us. Need evidence? He's coaching at the highest profile school in the state and he sends his daughter down the road to his former workplace. And I know it can be shocking to hear, but sometimes leaving Liberty is within God's will.

I get why people are still so emotional about what happened six years ago. But I still buy his reasoning for leaving. He and his family are now in a different stage of life where coming home makes perfect sense. And sometimes the old Cinderella ballad from the '80s comes into play.

His name may not have the pop some would like for a multitude of reasons, but you can't deny his resume or results.

Were we all wrong a second time?

Do you really need someone to lay out what was going on within our athletics administration around the time he left? I wouldn't blame any basketball coach for leaving then.

According to this it lands in Michigan at noon est. I think our presser may be a little late if that's the case.

Edit: and that airport isn't really close to Ann Arbor...oh the intrigue

This. and to be fair we weren't completely wrong about Hoffman. He was on campus and did interview. We just assumed he would take it. I'm relieved that its not RMK but i'm not exactly jumping for joy at Meyer either.

Agreed. Presser is just under four hours away and no one knows who we're hiring yet. Here's a crazy thought, what if JB is flying a coach not named Jeff Meyer to Michigan on a commercial jet and then having them picked up in Michigan by our plane?

Just think what could happen to a program that was winning the conference somewhat consistently!!!

A source just pointed me to this flight plan:

In case you are wondering, Benton Harbor is nearly a 2.5-hour drive from Ann Arbor. But it does arrive around noon making a 1pm news conference fit nicely into the schedule.
